About Rubber Flooring

Since the early 20th century, rubber has evolved from a raw tropical sap into the backbone of the automotive industry. Today, we give these tires a second life through a high-tech recycling process. By grinding, cleaning, and bonding high-quality crumb rubber, we create the resilient, eco-friendly flooring you see today. At FlooringInc, we offer this sustainable material in various formats, like rolls, tiles, and mats, to suit everything from high-traffic commercial gyms to private garage workshops.

Types of Rubber Flooring

Upgrade your space with sustainable, high-performance rubber flooring that stands the test of time. Whether you need the seamless look of rolls or the easy installation of interlocking tiles, we offer a variety of textures and thicknesses to suit every application.

Rubber Rolls

Our rubber rolls are our most popular rubber flooring type. While rolls are the gold standard for large, open spaces, they are also easily trimmed with a utility knife to fit even the most complex room layouts, including L-shaped floor plans. Our rubber rolls are available in several thicknesses - 5mm, 1/4”, 8mm, 3/8”, and 1/2”. With all of these thicknesses, the first question that comes to mind is: Which thickness is perfect for me? Below is a breakdown of where each thickness is most appropriate.

  • 5mm - High traffic areas - not recommended for gyms
  • 1/4” - Made for basic home gyms and exercise rooms.
  • 8mm - Very durable rubber for commercial and home gyms.
  • 3/8” - Most common thickness for commercial gyms and is a millimeter thicker than our 8mm.
  • 1/2”- Ultra durable rubber designed for extreme use.

Rubber rolls are easy to install. Depending on the application, our rubber rolls can be loosely laid, double-sided taped, or glued. For most home gyms, double-sided tape is more than enough to keep the rolls down. For commercial gyms, glue would be the preferred installation method. If you are using rubber rolls as flooring under stationary treadmills and stationary bikes in home gyms, you can lay the rolls. Maintenance of our rubber rolls is very easy and can be done with a broom, vacuum, or mop. When mopping, we recommend you use a mild soap and water solution and a synthetic mop head.

Rubber Flooring Tiles

Rubber tiles are a versatile flooring option for many areas of any home or business. Our rubber tiles are designed for use in gyms, playgrounds, and other outdoor spaces. All of our tiles are easy to install and maintain and are backed by industry-leading warranties.

Tiles are our easiest rubber floor to install and our most popular in home gyms. No need for a contractor here; most of our rubber tiles are interlocking tiles. For specific installation instructions for the tile you select, please refer to the installation tab for that product. Rubber tiles are better for smaller spaces and are best in square-shaped rooms. Our rubber tiles come in many different thicknesses from ¼” to 4”. The most common thicknesses used for gym flooring are:

  • 1/4” - Made for basic home gyms and exercise rooms.
  • 8mm - Very durable rubber for commercial and home gyms.
  • 3/8” - Most common thickness for commercial gyms and is a millimeter thicker than our 8mm.
  • 1/2” - Ultra durable rubber designed for extreme use.
  • 1” - For extreme weight lifting.

Gym tiles are available in both recycled and virgin rubber in a variety of colors and textures. The most common rubber tile used in home and commercial gyms is porous tiles. Non-porous tiles are more common in commercial applications and are more shock absorbent. Typically, you will see these tiles in areas where heavy dumbbells and barbells are used. Non-porous tiles are preferred for heavy-duty commercial zones because they offer superior shock absorption and won't trap sweat or moisture, keeping your facility sanitary during the most intense training sessions. These tiles are very easy to install and maintain, needing only a broom, vacuum, and mop. We recommend using a mild soap and water solution when mopping the floor with a synthetic mop head.

Rubber Flooring Mats

Our rubber mats have become the floor of choice for high-impact workouts. These rubber mats are very thick and provide excellent shock absorbency. These rubber horse stall mats are available in 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2”, and 3/4” thick. Below are what these mats are great for.

  • 1/4” - Great for floor exercises and under treadmills and stationary bikes.
  • 3/8” - Great for floor exercises, some high-impact exercises, and jump training.
  • 1/2” - Great for all high-impact exercises and jump training.
  • 3/4” - Great for all high-impact exercises and jump training.

Rubber mats can be used as standalone mats or as a full room floor. These mats are very easy to clean and maintain with the use of a broom, hose, or mop. When mopping, we recommend using a mild soap and water solution with a synthetic mop head.

Playground Rubber Flooring

Playground rubber tiles are thick, durable tiles that help keep kids safe while playing on playground equipment. These tiles range in thickness from 1” to 4” and are designed to absorb the shock of a kid falling from certain heights. Below is a breakdown of the thickness you will need to keep little Johnny safe while playing.

  • 1” - ideal for 1.5’ fall height - Most common thickness used for home playgrounds
  • 2.5” - ideal for 6’ fall height - Most common thickness used for commercial playgrounds
  • 3.5” - ideal for 8’ fall height - Used in commercial playgrounds
  • 4” - ideal for 10’ fall height - Used in commercial playgrounds

The installation of playground tiles is very dependent on the thickness. 1” thick tiles are installed using dowels, which are little pegs. 2.5” and 3.5” thick tiles are installed with tile clips or quad blocks. These are little adaptors that are used to hold the feet of the tiles together. 4” thick tiles are glued together or are glued down. Cleaning and maintenance of our playground tiles is effortless, requiring only a broom and a hose.

Outdoor Rubber Flooring

Outdoor rubber tiles are great for outdoor patios, decks, and stables. These tiles are available in patterns that mimic natural stone pavers and bricks. Our outdoor tiles are available from 5/8” - 1-3/4” thick. Installation of these tiles typically requires glue, but you can also install these rubber tiles with dowels or loose-laid. Maintaining our outdoor rubber tiles is very simple and only requires a broom and a hose.

5/8" Evolution Rubber Floor Tiles

"These were perfect for my garage gym application. The mats snapped together easily once soapy water was sprayed into the grommets. Sizing the mats perfectly and cutting was very easy with a sharp utility knife, which allowed me to customize the fitment. Shopping was exactly as described by FlooringInc, and I would recommend this product and FlooringInc to anyone who is on the fence regarding a purchase."

Next-Day Rubber Rolls – Custom Cut

"Purchased for a home gym. Delivered in a timely manner at a fair price. Received 4 rolls, 17-25 ft. (I think). All rubber was conforming and easy to work with. Cutting was easy - I used double-sided tape and rubber trim for a polished look. The flooring is excellent."

"When looking for a rubber mat to put underneath my new incline trainer, I wanted something that would still look great in my home while protecting our hardwood floors. This product is the best! It is the perfect size and thickness, and the color fleck looks great with the room (since it had to go in our front room). I highly recommend."
