Installation
Installation of these interlocking rubber flooring tiles is very simple and usually done by the consumer. Typical installation of these tiles is as follows:
- First, clean your subfloor, so it is free of all dirt, grease, or debris. Start in one corner of the room and work outward along the adjacent walls. Leave the other two edges of the room open and fill in the rest of the room.
- After the open floor is covered, go back and cut in tiles along the opposite walls in the room. We recommend leaving a gap along the walls roughly the tiles' thickness being used to account for expansion and contraction of the floor in varied temperature ranges.
Note: When piecing interlocking tiles together, adhesives aren’t usually needed since the weight of the product is usually enough to keep the floor tiles from moving. However, if you do experience movement and would like to ensure that the tiles do not slide at all, you can use some double-sided tape or mat tape around the perimeter of the installation to prevent any movement.
Care & Maintenance
PowerLock Rubber Gym Tiles are very durable as well as easy to maintain and keep clean. Maintenance for interlocking gym tiles includes:
Regularly vacuuming or sweeping any loose crumbs, dust or debris from the flooring surface when necessary. Occasionally damp mopping with a mild soap and water solution. Recommended soaps are Dawn dish detergent or Tide laundry detergent.
Note: Do not use any solvent or oil style cleaners such as Pinesol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, paint thinner, etc. since these types of cleaners will break down the flooring over time.

How many PowerLock tiles do I need for my room?
Each 23" x 23" tile covers 3.67 square feet. Divide your room's square footage by 3.67 for a starting count. Tiles are sold one at a time, with no minimum order. Add about 5% extra for the cuts along the walls. The room size calculator on this page counts whole tiles and can add that 5% for you.

The 8mm tile is offered in black, gray, blue, red, orange, cork, and blue/gray. A thinner 1/4" version is available in black and gray. Both thicknesses come in the same 23" x 23" size, so the choice is about how much impact protection you want.
Was this helpful?Do PowerLock tiles need glue or tape to stay in place?
No. The tiles interlock, and the weight of the rubber usually holds the floor in place. Nothing is glued, so the floor can be taken up and moved later. If you see the tiles shifting, run double-sided tape or mat tape around the perimeter. Leave a gap along the walls about as wide as the tile is thick. That gap gives the rubber room to expand and contract.

Yes. Basements are a common spot for these tiles, and they also work over radiant heated floors. Other typical uses are school weight rooms, home gyms, changing areas, dugouts, and dog kennels. The rubber resists mold and mildew, which helps below grade. Clean the subfloor first so it is free of dirt, grease, and debris.

We ordered the Powerlock gym floor tiles for a room we converted in our condo from an office to a home gym. An 11'x11' room, I ordered 38 tiles, utilizing the 5% overage option on the order. We had 4 tiles left over which I am saving. We ordered on the website during a sale and being in Florida the shipping was around $279, almost doubling the price of the tile. Since we were ordering this specific floor due to my allergies, we placed the order. We ordered on a Sunday and it was supposed to ship the end of that same week. We received two emails stating it wouldn't be shipping out on time and they would update us on a shipping date once the order has finished processing. I read on an old Reddit forum that sometimes the flooring just shows up with no warning. I called their customer service number which stated the wait time was 7 minutes, I was on hold for over 30 minutes with no pick up. In the meantime, I started an online chat on their website and after the AI chatbot couldn't give me proper tracking info, it connected me to a live person to chat with. This person pulled up my order number and let me know it's en route and gave me the tracking number and carrier website so I could continue to track it myself. Turns out it was going to arrive two days after my inquiry. I never received any information from the company that it was en route or any tracking information. It always just said my order was "processing". I thought the delivery company might contact me to let me know when they were going to deliver since I live in a condo and a pallet of tile is an unusual thing to receive without any communication or direction. They didn't. They dumped the pallet in front of my storage shed which is the farthest possible point for us to carry all the tiles up to our second floor condo. I did receive an email from the company that my order was delivered right after it was. The tile itself is a nice product - we ordered the 8mm black with grey speckles. It doesn't have an overwhelming odor and the tiles lock in place very well. We did notice one tile has a different sheen and didn't interlock well with the others so luckily we had extra tile and removed it altogether. There are small arrows on one side (the back side) of the tile and it is important to keep all your tile arrows facing the same direction and you interlock it so they fit together just right. We layed the floor directly over our floor tile and it did just fine. We used a jigsaw to cut the tile straight edges as a utility knife is just clunky and a lot of work when you have to cut multiple tiles. We were able to complete our project in about 3 hours total and are very happy with it. I would just say the company needs to get their communication processes down as the overwhelming critique online of this company is promising a shipping date that is much sooner than they can actually ship the product and not communicating about when the order is coming. Both of which I experienced. It wouldn't keep me from ordering from Flooring Inc. again, but I would hesitate if I was on a strict timeline and needed it to be upheld.

Product shipped and was delivered within 1 week. The 8mm thickness was perfect for what I needed, and I got the speckled version which looks great. The material feels just like tire rubber. Only issue is that the tiles are not exactly square but this not obvious at first. One side is 24 1/8" while the other side is 23 7/8". It matters that you put them together in the correct orientation across your whole floor or they won't fit well together. Once I figured that out, installation was easy and I love the floor.

A couple installation tips. Pay attention to the arrows on the back. There is definitely a difference in sheen depending on which way they are installed. We chose to offset each row by 1/2 tile to eliminate the 4 corners in a spot and it looked much more seemless. A straight edge and utility knife is your friend! Overall a quick install for our fym floor.
