How to Buy Artificial Grass
Artificial turf is an eco-friendly and affordable alternative to natural grass. Over the years, manufacturers have designed fake grass to look and perform just like the real thing, so you can have a fresh, green lawn the whole year. If green isn’t your thing, our turf comes in a selection of other vibrant colors you can use in the gym or on the sports field.
Modern artificial grass is not just used for landscaping but is also used as flooring in gyms, doggy daycares, as playground flooring, for putting greens and much more. We have turf for sale available in rolls, tiles, mats, and rugs, and most can be installed indoors and outside.

Things to Consider
Face Weight
Face weight is one of the most important factors when choosing the right turf for your application. This term refers to the weight of the turf per square yard. This is one of the biggest determinants of turf durability.
Turf durability also depends on a few other factors, such as backing, fiber type, and stitch rate. However, as a general rule, the higher the face weight, the more durable the turf will be.
Learn more about face weight ranges and the uses for each. Please note that these are only guidelines, and other factors may influence the durability:
- 1-20 oz: This lower range of face weight is made for low-traffic applications.
- 21-40 oz: Use this face for low to moderate traffic applications.
- 41-60 oz: This face weight is great for moderate traffic.
- 61-80 oz: Choose this face weight for demanding applications and heavy traffic.
Material
So we know about the different types of turf and the many ways to use it, but seriously, what is this stuff? As it turns out, fake grass can be made from a lot of different materials, and manufacturers keep coming up with newer and better materials all the time.
Here are the main turf materials, ranked from oldest to newest:
- Nylon: (The Most Durable): Nylon is the most durable fiber used to manufacture turf, and it comes with a Class 1 fire rating for added safety. It does fade in direct sunlight, so it’s not a good choice for outdoor turf. It can also be abrasive, which can be an issue if you expect a lot of impacts.
- Polypropylene: (Great for Outdoors): This material won’t fade in direct sunlight, and it’s softer and less abrasive than nylon. You get comfort and durability in a single package. However, it’s not always given a Class 1 fire rating, and it’s not as durable as nylon.
- Polyethylene: (Eco-Friendly): Made from recycled plastic and glass bottles, polyethylene is both eco-friendly and more affordable than nylon or polypropylene. It’s the softest choice of all, and it doesn’t fade in direct sunlight. Because it’s so soft, it will need a high face weight in order to handle more traffic, and it doesn’t all have a Class 1 fire rating. However, all the polyethylene that we sell has a Class 1 rating.

-
Safe for Hard Cleats: When the game requires metal cleats for better control and traction, you’ll want a turf that holds up to the wear and tear. Cleat-safe turf has a higher face weight, so is tough enough for football and baseball, which requires metal cleats.
-
Safe for Soft Cleats: Soft plastic sports cleats aren’t quite as aggressive as other, firmer cleats. That means you can opt for a turf that doesn’t have as high of a face weight. Typically, soft cleat turf is suited for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey.

Our foam pads are fall height rated, which means that they will protect you from serious injury if you were to fall. Our playground turf is easy to clean and maintain with the use of a blower and hose.

Must-Have Accessories
We offer a wide range of installation accessories for our artificial grass, so you have all the tools needed to make your turf install a breeze.
Installation
- Weed fabric: Weed fabric is essential to keep natural grass and weeds from growing through your turf flooring. This is one of the first materials you will want to install before your turf is laid.
- Staples and Nails: Nails are used to hold the edges of the turf down, whereas staples hold the turf seams together.
- Seam Tape and Adhesive: Our turf seam tape is an alternative to using staples at the seams. You apply glue to the tape and then stick the turf over it. We also carry turf seam tape, which already comes with adhesive on one side. You just have to peel off the backing and apply the tape. Easy Peasy!
- Lawn Pads: Foam lawn pads are placed under our turf to increase comfort underfoot. In addition to adding comfort, they’re fall height rated, making them great under playground turf.
- Infill: Adding infill is the last step in the installation process. Infill is used to weigh down the turf and create a more natural look by making the blades stand up straight. It also helps with mitigating heat and improves the drainage of your turf.
- Turf rake: Use a turf rake to spread infill over your turf. It is also very helpful when blooming the turf, so it maintains a natural look with vertical blades.
Turf Edging:
- Wonder Edge: Wonder edge is a simple to use edging tool that makes your new lawn look perfect. Use these around the edges of your turf, so you tuck your turf under it.
- Polyboard: Our polyboard lawn edging is a perfect alternative to natural wood edging. Since it’s made from recycled plastic, it is resistant to weather and insects and is eco-friendly.
More about Turf Infill
There are several types of infill, and they each come with their own benefits.
You can choose from:
-
Silica sand: The most popular infill, loved for its heat-reduction properties. Sand doesn’t compact or fracture upon impact. If you choose rounded grain, you will reduce the chance of abrasion if someone falls on the turf. The main downside of this material is that it absorbs moisture easily, and this can allow mold and mildew to grow. Choose silica sand for sport turf infill.
-
Durafill: Also known as envirofill, this infill is a non-absorbent synthetic soil that promotes proper drainage. Since it doesn’t absorb moisture and is treated with microban, Durafill is mold- and mildew-resistant. It’s also cooler than traditional black rubber crumb infill. This is the best choice for pet turf installation.
-
Hydrochill / Chill Fill: This modified silica sand infill has been upgraded with a special treatment that allows it to cool turf better than any other infill type. The natural evaporative cooling system slowly releases stored moisture to reduce the turf surface. When hydrated, the Hydrochill technology can keep the turf cool for a number of days. Chill fill infill is perfect for landscape turf, since it’s designed to keep the lawn comfortable.
-
Zeolite max: Designed to maintain a fresh and clean-smelling lawn, zeolite max works by neutralizing ammonia-based odors on the turf and in the air. This infill has a negative charge, which prevents ammonia from becoming a gas and creating unpleasant smells. It maintains this negative charge from nitrogen in rainwater, so no upkeep is needed. Zeolite is another great choice as an infill for pet turf.
-
Rubber: As the first infill ever used, rubber crumb is typically the most widely-known option, though it comes with some drawbacks. While it adds bounce to your turf, making it good for sports, rubber infill heats up rapidly in direct sunlight. In fact, rubber crumb can be up to 34% than other infills. Additionally, the rubber bounces out of the turf, and will require an eventual refill.
Newport Turf Rolls
“I have a beautiful apartment complex, but I don’t feel like I have my own yard. I wanted to bring the greenery back. There’s nothing like having solid green to feel like home. My cat spends more time on the turf than me. He rolls around on it every day and does flips, he loves it! I love sitting on it too. At the end of the day, it’s so important where you put your feet. I wanted to invest in something that would last and was a quality product.”
Shock Turf X
“I was so pleased at the quality of the flooring I received. It is heavy duty and high quality materials. The look is fantastic. The weight of the product is very heavy and I have no doubt this will be extremely durable for years.”
Newport Premium Turf Rolls
“We have four dogs and real grass...just doesn't work. It’s dirty, requires lots of maintenance, and a ton of things can go wrong! With this turf which btw looks super realistic; it’s easy to clean, doesn't smell, easy to install, dogs love it, and we love it! Honestly worth every penny!”
