Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

1. Surface Preparation:

  • Remove Existing Materials: Clear the area of all grass, sod, mulch, and debris. For landscaping around trees, shrubs, and other obstacles, mark the areas and leave space around tree bases.
  • Sprinkler and Electrical Adjustments: Cap any unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate sprinklers and electrical wiring inward by 6-8 inches to avoid damage. Secure these items with U-shaped nails.

2. Base Construction:

  • Install Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of decomposed granite (a mix of gravel and sand) to ensure proper drainage. Level and compact the base using a vibrating plate compactor or hand tamper. Ensure the surface is completely flat and stable.

3. Turf Placement:

  • Weed Cloth (Optional): Lay weed cloth over the base to prevent weed growth. Overlap the edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails, avoiding deep placement to prevent dimpling.
  • Position Turf: Roll out the turf, aligning it with straight or perpendicular edges for accuracy. Secure temporary nails along the edges to hold the turf in place while fitting the opposite edges. Overcut by one inch along the edges for a snug fit.
  • Seaming: Use a seaming tool to connect turf edges, cutting in an S-shape to avoid visible seams. Secure seams with six-inch U-nails placed every six inches, ensuring they are level with the turf.

4. Final Touches:

  • Tuck and Secure: Use a wonder bar to tuck turf edges against hardscapes or borders for a clean finish.
  • Infill Application: Spread infill or sand evenly over the turf. Brush the turf with a power brush or stiff-bristled broom to lift the blades and force the infill into the base. Remove any excess debris.

Indoor Installation

1. Surface Preparation:

  • Clean and Level: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and level. Suitable surfaces include concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

2. Dry Lay and Alignment:

  • Check Fit: Dry lay the turf to check alignment and minimize variations. Look for manufacturing details stamped on the backing to determine fiber direction.

3. Adhesive Application:

  • Apply Adhesive: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape to the surface. Lay the turf, ensuring it sticks well to the adhesive.

4. Seaming and Rolling:

  • Seam Sealer: Apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
  • Roll Turf: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf into place.

5. Curing:

  • Allow Curing Time: Keep the installation in dry conditions for 72 hours to allow the adhesive to cure properly.

Maintenance

1. Regular Cleaning:

  • Debris Removal: Sweep or vacuum the turf regularly to remove dirt, dust, and debris.

2. Spot Cleaning:

  • Stains: Clean stains with mild soap and water, avoiding harsh chemicals.

3. Brushing:

  • Fiber Maintenance: Brush the turf fibers with a stiff-bristled broom or power brush to keep them upright and maintain a natural appearance.

4. Infill Maintenance:

  • Reapply Infill: Check the level of infill periodically and add more if needed to maintain cushioning and support.

5. Pet Care (If Applicable):

  • Rinsing: For pet areas, rinse with water as needed and ensure proper drainage to prevent odors.
