Artificial Grass Roll Installation Instructions:

Outdoor Installation

  1. Preparation:

    • Site Cleanup: Remove all existing grasses, sods, mulches, and other materials from the installation area. If working around trees, shrubs, flowers, light poles, or utilities, mark these areas and account for turf edge configuration. Leave adequate space around tree bases.
    • Sprinkler System: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate sprinklers if needed and mark their positions. Move electrical sprinklers and wiring inward by 6-8 inches from hardscapes or perimeters to avoid damage during installation.
    • Subgrade Preparation: Lay moved items on the subgrade and secure with U-shaped nails.
  2. Base Installation:

    • Material: Use decomposed granite (DG) for the base, a mix of gravel and sand that allows for proper drainage. Spread DG to a depth of 3 inches for non-pet landscapes.
    • Compaction: Evenly distribute and level the DG. Wet it to help it settle, then compact using a vibrator, tamper, or roller until flat and stable.
  3. Turf Placement:

    • Weed Barrier: Roll out weed cloth if needed, overlapping edges by 6 inches. Secure with flat-head nails and trim to fit, leaving a 1/4” gap around the border. Avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling.
    • Turf Layout: Align the turf using a straight edge or perpendicular edges. Cut excess turf by 1 inch along the edges for a proper fit. Secure edges with temporary nails while fixing the opposite sides.
    • Seaming: Use a seaming tool to join edges. Cut turf in an S-shape to reduce seam visibility. Nail every 6 inches along the edge, driving nails 3/4 of the way down. Ensure nails are hidden by grass blades and secure seams with 6-inch U-nails spaced 6 inches apart.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Tucking: Use a metal bar (wonder bar) to tuck turf edges against hardscapes for a seamless appearance. Brush against the grain with a power or bristled brush to lift blades. Apply infill or sand evenly across the turf to keep blades upright and add weight. Brush again to integrate infill into the base and remove excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Ensure the surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting or powdering concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.
  2. Turf Layout:

    • Dry Lay: Position the turf rolls to manage roll sequencing and minimize variations. Check the backing for manufacturing details to determine fiber direction.
  3. Adhesive Application:

    • Turf Pad: If using a pad, install it over the base with double-sided tape or glue.
    • Turf Installation: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape, then lay the turf. Seal seams with a bead of seam sealer.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Roll the turf with a 75 lb. weighted roller across its width and length to ensure adhesion. Allow the installation to remain dry for 72 hours for adhesive curing.

Maintenance Instructions for Rolled Artificial Turf:

Maintaining your rolled artificial grass is essential to ensure its longevity and pristine appearance. Here are the steps to keep your turf looking its best:

Regular Cleaning:

  • Periodically rake the turf with a plastic rake to remove leaves, twigs, and other debris. This helps to keep the surface clean and prevents the buildup of organic material that can encourage weed growth.
  • Avoid using metal rakes, as they can damage the turf fibers.

    Brushing:

    • Use a power brush or a heavy-bristled brush to brush the turf against the grain. This will help to keep the blades upright and maintain the natural look of the turf.
    • Brushing also helps to evenly distribute the infill and ensure proper support for the turf fibers.

      Stain Removal:

      • For spills or stains, clean the affected area promptly with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the turf fibers.
      • For tougher stains, a mixture of vinegar and water can be used. Rinse the area thoroughly with water after cleaning.

      Weed Control:

      • Although weed cloth helps prevent weeds, occasional weeds may appear around the edges or seams. Remove any weeds by hand to prevent them from taking root.
      • If necessary, apply a water-based herbicide that is safe for synthetic turf to control weed growth.

        Pet Maintenance:

        • For areas used by pets, regularly remove solid waste and rinse the area with water to prevent odors.
        • Use a turf deodorizer if needed to keep the area smelling fresh.

          Infill Maintenance:

          • Check the infill levels periodically and add more if needed to ensure the blades remain upright and the turf retains its resilience.
          • Over time, infill can settle or be displaced, so it’s important to top it up as required.

By following these maintenance steps, your artificial turf will remain clean, attractive, and in excellent condition for years to come.

With All Play Pet Turf Rolls, you get a tough, reliable artificial grass surface that can handle your pet's roughest play while keeping them safe and comfortable. Ideal for both outdoor and indoor applications, this turf ensures a durable, pet-friendly environment for your furry friends.
