Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Preparation:

    • Clear the Area: Remove existing grass, sod, mulch, and other materials from the area where the turf will be installed. If landscaping around trees, shrubs, or obstacles, make sure to mark these areas and plan for the turf edge configuration. Leave adequate space around tree bases.
    • Sprinkler System: Cap any unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. If needed, relocate sprinklers and mark their positions. Move electrical sprinklers and wiring inward by 6-8 inches from hardscapes or perimeters to avoid damage during installation.
    • Subgrade Preparation: Place any moved items on the subgrade and secure with U-shaped nails.
  2. Base Installation:

    • Material: Use decomposed granite (DG), a mix of gravel and sand, to create a stable base that allows proper drainage. For non-pet installations, spread DG to a depth of 3 inches.
    • Compaction: Distribute and level the DG, wetting it to help settle. Compact the base with a vibrator, tamper, or roller until it is flat and even.
  3. Turf Placement:

    • Weed Barrier: If applicable, roll out weed cloth, overlapping edges by 6 inches. Secure with flat-head nails and trim to fit the area with a 1/4” border gap. Avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling.
    • Turf Layout: Align the turf using a straight or perpendicular edge. Cut excess turf by 1 inch along the edges for a proper fit. Secure the edges with temporary nails while fixing the opposite sides.
    • Seaming: Use a seaming tool to join turf edges. Cut turf in an S-shape to minimize seam visibility. Nail every 6 inches along the edge, driving nails 3/4 of the way down. Ensure nails are hidden by grass blades. Secure seams with 6-inch U-nails spaced 6 inches apart.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Tucking: Use a metal bar (wonder bar) to tuck the turf edges against hardscapes for a seamless finish. Brush against the grain with a power or bristled brush to lift the grass blades. Apply infill or sand evenly to hold blades upright and add weight. Brush again to work the infill into the base and remove excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Ensure the installation surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting or powdering concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.
  2. Turf Layout:

    • Dry Lay: Position the turf rolls to manage roll sequencing and minimize variations. Check the backing for manufacturing details to determine the fiber direction.
  3. Adhesive Application:

    • Turf Pad: If using a pad, install it over the base with double-sided tape or glue.
    • Turf Installation: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape, then lay the turf. Seal seams with a bead of seam sealer.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Roll the turf with a 75 lb. weighted roller across its width and length to ensure proper adhesion. Allow the installation to remain dry for 72 hours for the adhesive to fully cure.

Maintenance

  • Outdoor Turf: Brush regularly to remove debris and maintain the turf’s appearance. Clean spills promptly to avoid stains.
  • Indoor Turf: Sweep or vacuum to remove loose dirt and dust. Spot clean with mild detergent if needed.

Our Budget Turf Rolls provide a cost-effective way to achieve a high-quality turf installation. Ideal for a range of applications, these rolls deliver durability and aesthetic appeal at a fraction of the cost.
