Installation Instructions for Performance Turf Rolls

Preparation

  1. Surface Preparation

    • Ensure the installation surface is clean, dry, and level.
    • Remove any debris, dust, or grease.
    • For outdoor installations, remove all grasses, sod, mulches, etc., from the marked areas.
  2. Acclimation

    • Allow the Performance Turf Rolls to acclimate to the environment for at least 24 hours before installation.
    • Lay out the rolls in the area where they will be installed to let them adjust.

Outdoor Installation (Glue Down Method)

  1. Dry Lay and Sequencing

    • Dry lay the turf rolls to implement roll sequencing and minimize normal variations.
    • Manufacturing details will be back stamped on one side of the backing; use this to determine fiber direction.
  2. Adhesive Application

    • Apply pressure-sensitive adhesive or double-sided tape to the surface.
    • Lay the turf on the adhesive.
  3. Seaming

    • Apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll the product with a 75 lb. weighted roller across the product surface’s width and length.
  4. Curing

    • The installation must remain in dry conditions for 72 hours to allow the adhesive to cure properly.

Outdoor Installation (Non-Infilled Synthetic Lawn Method)

  1. Area Preparation

    • Remove all grasses, sods, mulches, etc., from the marked areas.
    • Mark around trees, shrubbery, flowers, light poles, utilities, etc., and account for the turf edge configuration.
    • Leave ample area uncovered around the bases of trees.
  2. Base Construction

    • Compact the native soil/subgrade before base construction.
    • Add a base of crushed rock and level it with a landscaping rake to approximately 3” thick.
    • Spray with water and use a hand tamper to compact the area, typically requiring 2-3 passes.
    • Let the compacted area dry and check for any inconsistencies.
  3. Laying Turf

    • Roll the synthetic turf out on top of the constructed base.
    • Ensure the fibers’ grain on each turf roll is running in the same direction if using multiple rolls.
    • Trim the untufted edge and around the borders to match the edges.
  4. Seaming

    • Fold the adjacent trimmed edges of two rolls of turf approximately 2’ apart along the length of the seam.
    • Roll out the seaming tape and apply adhesive with a 1/8” trowel.
    • Center the seaming tape and lay the edges of each turf roll directly onto the tape, ensuring no tape is showing and the joint is invisible.
    • Add weight to the seams and allow the adhesive to cure overnight.
  5. Securing Turf and Brushing

    • Stake down the turf along the perimeter every 3’ with landscape spikes.
    • Use a stiff-bristled broom to stand the fibers up.
    • Sand infill is optional.

Indoor Installation (Glue Down Method)

  1. Surface Preparation

    • Ensure the surface is level, clean, and dry.
    • Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting, powdering concrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.
  2. Dry Lay and Sequencing

    • Dry lay the turf rolls to implement roll sequencing and minimize normal variations.
    • Manufacturing details will be back stamped on one side of the backing; use this to determine fiber direction.
  3. Adhesive Application

    • Apply adhesive or double-sided tape to the surface.
    • Lay the turf on the adhesive.
  4. Seaming

    • Apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll the product with a 75 lb. weighted roller across the product surface’s width and length.
  5. Curing

    • The installation must remain in dry conditions for 72 hours to allow the adhesive to cure properly.

      Additional Tips

      • Fiber Direction: Ensure the fibers’ grain on each turf roll runs in the same direction for a uniform look.
      • Batch Variations: Be aware that there may be slight color variations between different batches of turf rolls.

Maintenance

  1. Cleaning

    • Regularly sweep or vacuum the turf to remove dirt and debris.
    • Clean spills promptly with a damp mop and mild detergent.
  2. UV Stability and Drainage

    • The non-cushioned version of Performance Turf Rolls is UV stable and has perforations for drainage, suitable for outdoor use.

Yes, you may play field hockey on our Performance Turf Rolls.
Padding is always a good idea when you need extra cushion underneath while working out on the turf. But if you are only looking to use the turf under the sled, you may skip the pad. These rolls come in both padded and nonpadded versions.
The padded version isn't perforated for drainage. For Field Hockey, please look at any of our Sports Turf.
We recommend using the double sided carpet tape when installing turf indoors.
