Installation Instructions for Rolled Turf Flooring

Installation of our rolled turf flooring is straightforward and typically done by our customers. Below are instructions for both outdoor and indoor installations of our rolled flooring.

Synthetic Lawn Outdoor Installation

  1. Preparation:

    • Remove all grasses, sods, mulches, etc., from the marked areas.
    • Mark around trees, shrubbery, flowers, light poles, utilities, etc., and leave ample area uncovered around the bases of trees.
    • Cap any sprinklers at the pipe level to avoid leakage and relocate sprinklers if necessary. Mark the location of the unused sprinklers.
    • Move electrical sprinklers and wiring inward and away from any hardscape or perimeter by six-to-eight inches to avoid accidental damage when nailing turf edges. Secure them with U-shaped nails.
  2. Base Installation:

    • Install the base with decomposed granite (DG), a mixture of gravel and sand, which allows proper drainage.
    • For non-pet landscape installations, install DG to a depth of three inches. Distribute and level the base material.
    • Wet the base to allow the material to settle properly. Compact the base by vibrating, tamping, and rolling the gravel until you have a completely flat surface.
  3. Laying the Turf:

    • Roll out weed cloth if applicable to prevent plants and weeds from growing through the base. Overlap the edges by six inches and secure it with flat-head nails. Trim the cloth to fit the landscape area, leaving a 1/4” gap along the border.
    • Find either a straight edge or two perpendicular edges for alignment before laying the turf. Square the turf to fit the area to minimize cutting and fitting on all four sides.
    • Secure the square edges with temporary nails while securing the opposite edges. Over-cut the turf by one inch along the edges for a proper fit.
  4. Seaming and Securing the Turf:

    • Use a seaming tool to cut the turf in an S-shape to avoid the turf pushing against each other's angles, which can create a discoloration illusion in the seamed area.
    • Install nails every six inches along the edge and drive them down three-quarters of the way. Separate the grass to avoid pulling the blades down with the nail.
    • Secure seams with six-inch U-nails every six inches. Make sure the U-nail is driven to the same level of the mat and hidden with the grass blades.
    • Use turf seam tape or turf seam tape & adhesive pack when seaming the turf over a turf pad.
  5. Final Touches:

    • Tuck the turf edges against any hardscape or border using a metal bar called a wonder bar for a clean, plush look.
    • Use a power brush or heavy bristled brush to pull against the grain of the grass to make it stand up.
    • Apply infill or sand evenly throughout the entire turf installation. The infill will hold the blades upright and give the turf more weight.
    • Brush up the turf once again to force the infill into the base, allowing the turf to settle and create optimal stability. Remove excess debris.

Glue Down Indoor Installation

  1. Preparation:

    • Ensure the surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting, powdering concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.
    • Dry lay your turf to implement roll sequencing to minimize normal variations. Manufacturing details will be back stamped on one side of the backing to determine fiber direction.
  2. Turf Pad Installation (if applicable):

    • Install the turf pad over the base with either double-sided tape or glue.
  3. Laying the Turf:

    • Apply adhesive or double-sided tape to the surface and then lay the turf.
    • Apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Roll the product with a 75 lb. weighted roller across the width and length of the product surface.
    • Ensure the installation remains in dry conditions for 72 hours to allow the adhesive to cure properly.

Following these steps will ensure a successful installation of your rolled turf flooring, providing a professional and durable finish for both outdoor and indoor applications.

Maintenance Instructions for Rolled Turf Flooring

Maintaining your rolled turf flooring is essential to ensure its longevity and pristine appearance. Here are the steps to keep your turf looking its best:

  1. Regular Cleaning:

    • Periodically rake the turf with a plastic rake to remove leaves, twigs, and other debris. This helps to keep the surface clean and prevents the buildup of organic material that can encourage weed growth.
    • Avoid using metal rakes, as they can damage the turf fibers.
  2. Brushing:

    • Use a power brush or a heavy-bristled brush to brush the turf against the grain. This will help to keep the blades upright and maintain the natural look of the turf.
    • Brushing also helps to evenly distribute the infill and ensure proper support for the turf fibers.
  3. Stain Removal:

    • For spills or stains, clean the affected area promptly with a mild soap and water solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the turf fibers.
    • For tougher stains, a mixture of vinegar and water can be used. Rinse the area thoroughly with water after cleaning.
  4. Weed Control:

    • Although weed cloth helps prevent weeds, occasional weeds may appear around the edges or seams. Remove any weeds by hand to prevent them from taking root.
    • If necessary, apply a water-based herbicide that is safe for synthetic turf to control weed growth.
  5. Pet Maintenance:

    • For areas used by pets, regularly remove solid waste and rinse the area with water to prevent odors.
    • Use a turf deodorizer if needed to keep the area smelling fresh.
  6. Infill Maintenance:

    • Check the infill levels periodically and add more if needed to ensure the blades remain upright and the turf retains its resilience.
    • Over time, infill can settle or be displaced, so it’s important to top it up as required.

By following these maintenance steps, your rolled turf flooring will remain clean, attractive, and in excellent condition for years to come.
