Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Preparation:

    • Clear the Area: Remove all existing grass, sod, and mulch. For landscaping around trees, shrubs, or other features, mark these areas and plan your turf edges accordingly. Leave space around tree bases.
    • Sprinkler System: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate sprinklers if necessary and mark their new positions.
    • Subgrade Preparation: Move electrical wiring and other materials inward by 6-8 inches from the edge to avoid damage during installation. Secure these items with U-shaped nails on the subgrade surfacing.
  2. Base Installation:

    • Material: Use decomposed granite (DG), a blend of gravel and sand that allows for proper drainage. Spread DG to a depth of 3 inches for non-pet installations.
    • Compaction: Distribute and level the DG, wetting it to help settle. Compact the material using a vibrator, tamper, or roller until the surface is flat.
  3. Turf Placement:

    • Weed Barrier: Roll out weed cloth if needed, overlapping edges by 6 inches. Secure with flat-head nails and trim to fit with a 1/4” border gap. Avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling.
    • Turf Layout: Align the turf using straight or perpendicular edges. Cut excess turf by 1 inch along the edges for a proper fit. Secure edges with temporary nails while securing opposite sides.
    • Seaming: Use a seaming tool and cut turf in an S-shape to avoid visible seams. Nail every 6 inches along the edge, driving nails 3/4 of the way down. Ensure nails are hidden with grass blades. Secure seams with 6-inch U-nails every 6 inches.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Tucking: Use a metal bar (wonder bar) to tuck the turf edges against any hardscape for a neat finish. Brush against the grain with a power or bristled brush to lift the grass blades. Apply infill or sand to hold the blades upright and add weight. Brush the turf again to work the infill into the base and remove excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Ensure the surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting or powdering concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.
  2. Turf Layout:

    • Dry Lay: Position the turf rolls to manage roll sequencing and minimize variations. Check the backing for manufacturing details to determine fiber direction.
  3. Adhesive Application:

    • Turf Pad: If using a pad, install it with double-sided tape or glue over the base.
    • Turf Installation: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape, then lay the turf. Seal seams with a bead of seam sealer.
  4. Final Steps:

    • Roll the turf with a 75 lb. weighted roller across its width and length to ensure proper adhesion. Allow the installation to remain dry for 72 hours for the adhesive to cure fully.

Maintenance

  • Outdoor Turf: Regularly brush the turf to remove debris and maintain its appearance. Clean any stains or spills promptly.
  • Indoor Turf: Sweep or vacuum to remove loose dirt and dust. Spot clean with a mild detergent as needed.

With K-9 Turf Rolls, you’ll enjoy a beautiful, pet-friendly space that is easy to install and maintain. Enhance your environment with a durable, realistic grass solution that stands up to everyday use.

These rolls are 15' wide and you can choose your own length.
We recommend using infill since it helps to keep the blades up and helps to add weight as well. The infill will also help with the drainage rate. Our Zeolite Max & Durafill infill work best for any of our pet turfs.
