Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Site Preparation:

    • Remove Existing Materials: Clear the area of all grass, sod, mulch, and debris. When working around trees, shrubs, or utilities, be sure to mark these areas and leave adequate space around tree bases.
    • Cap and Relocate Sprinklers: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks and relocate any electrical sprinklers and wiring inward by 6-8 inches from hardscapes to avoid damage.

  2. Base Installation:

    • Apply Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of DG, which consists of gravel and sand, to ensure proper drainage. Level and compact the base using vibrating, tamping, and rolling techniques. Wet the base to aid in settling.
    • Turf Pad (Optional): If using a turf pad, cut a hole in the base to match the pad's size and depth.

  3. Install Weed Cloth (If Needed):

    • Lay Weed Cloth: Prevent weed growth by laying weed cloth over the base. Overlap edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails, trimming to fit the landscape with a 1/4” border gap. Avoid driving nails too deep to prevent dimpling.

  4. Turf Installation:

    • Align and Secure Turf: Use straight or perpendicular edges for alignment. Temporarily secure edges with nails while adjusting the turf. Over-cut edges by one inch for a proper fit.
    • Seam the Turf: Use a seaming tool to cut the turf in an S-shape to reduce visible seams. Secure edges with nails every 6 inches, driving them 3/4 of the way down. Ensure nails are hidden by grass blades. Use 6-inch U-nails every 6 inches to secure seams, keeping them level and concealed.
    • Tuck and Brush: Tuck the turf edges against hardscapes or borders with a metal bar (wonder bar) for a clean look. Brush against the grain to lift fibers, apply infill or sand, and spread evenly. Brush again to integrate the infill into the base, removing excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Prepare the Surface:

    • Ensure Cleanliness: Verify that the surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

  2. Dry Lay and Align:

    • Dry Lay: Unroll the turf and align it according to backstamped manufacturing details for fiber direction.

  3. Apply Adhesive:

    • Adhesive Application: Use double-sided tape or glue for securing the turf. If using a turf pad, install it over the base with tape or glue.
    • Lay Turf: Position the turf and apply seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf across its width and length.

  4. Curing:

    • Allow to Cure: Maintain dry conditions for 72 hours to ensure proper adhesive curing.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Cleaning:

    • Sweeping: Periodically sweep away loose dirt, dust, and debris to keep the turf looking its best.

  2. Stains and Spills:

    • Cleaning Solution: Use warm water and mild detergent for stain removal. Avoid bleach or harsh chemicals.
    • Pet Waste: Clean pet waste promptly with a mixture of white distilled vinegar and water (equal parts), then rinse and remove excess solution.

  3. Gum Removal:

    • Chewing Gum: Harden and remove chewing gum using dry ice or refrigerant packets.

  4. Matting:

    • Brush: Use a synthetic brush to lift matted grass fibers. Avoid metal or wire brushes to prevent damage.
