Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Prepare the Surface:

    • Remove Existing Material: Clear the area of all grasses, sods, mulches, and debris. For areas with trees, shrubs, or utilities, ensure these are marked, and leave ample space around tree bases.
    • Cap and Relocate Sprinklers: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate electrical sprinklers and wiring 6-8 inches inward from hardscapes or perimeters to avoid damage. Mark locations of unused sprinklers.

  2. Install the Base:

    • Apply Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of DG, a blend of gravel and sand that aids drainage. Distribute and level the material, then compact it using vibrating, tamping, and rolling methods. Wet the base to help it settle and achieve a flat surface.
    • Turf Pad (Optional): If using a turf pad, cut a hole in the base to fit the size and depth of the pad.

  3. Lay Weed Cloth (If Applicable):

    • Install Weed Cloth: Prevent weed growth by laying down weed cloth. Overlap edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails. Trim the cloth to fit, leaving a 1/4” gap along borders. Avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling.

  4. Install the Turf:

    • Align Turf: Position the turf with straight or perpendicular edges for alignment. Temporarily secure edges with nails while adjusting the turf.
    • Cut and Fit: Over-cut the turf by one inch along edges to ensure a proper fit. This excess will be used for tucking.
    • Seam Turf: Use a seaming tool to cut turf in an S-shape to avoid visible seams. Install nails every 6 inches along edges, driving them 3/4 of the way down. Ensure nails are hidden by grass blades and avoid deep driving to prevent dimpling. Secure seams with 6-inch U-nails, keeping them level and concealed.
    • Tuck and Brush: Use a wonder bar to tuck turf edges against hardscapes or borders for a clean look. Brush against the grain to lift grass fibers, then apply and spread infill or sand evenly. Brush the turf again to integrate the infill into the base, removing excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Prepare the Surface:

    • Ensure Cleanliness: Verify that the surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

  2. Dry Lay and Align:

    • Dry Lay: Unroll the turf and align it based on backstamped manufacturing details for fiber direction.

  3. Apply Adhesive:

    • Adhesive Application: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape to secure the turf. If using a turf pad, install it with tape or glue.
    • Lay Turf: Position the turf and apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf across its width and length.

  4. Curing:

    • Allow to Cure: Maintain dry conditions for 72 hours to ensure proper curing of the adhesive.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Cleaning:

    • Sweeping: Periodically sweep loose dirt, dust, and debris to keep the turf looking clean and inviting.

  2. Stains and Spills:

    • Cleaning Solution: Use warm water and a mild detergent for cleaning stains. Avoid using bleach or harsh chemicals.
    • Pet Waste: Clean up pet waste promptly with a mixture of white distilled vinegar and water (equal parts), then rinse thoroughly and remove excess solution.

  3. Gum Removal:

    • Chewing Gum: Use dry ice or refrigerant packets to harden and remove chewing gum from the turf.

  4. Matting:

    • Brush: Use a synthetic brush to lift matted grass fibers. Avoid using metal or wire brushes, as they can damage the turf.
