Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Clear the Area: Remove all grasses, sods, mulches, and debris from the installation site. For areas around trees, shrubs, flowers, or other features, mark these zones and ensure adequate space around tree bases.
    • Cap and Relocate Sprinklers: Cap any unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks and relocate electrical sprinklers and wiring at least 6-8 inches inward from hardscapes or perimeters to avoid damage during installation. Mark the locations of unused sprinklers.

  2. Base Installation:

    • Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of DG, a blend of gravel and sand, for proper drainage. Level and compact the DG using vibrating, tamping, and rolling methods until you achieve a flat, stable surface. Wet the base to help it settle.
    • Turf Pad (Optional): If using a turf pad, cut a hole in the base to match the size and depth of the pad.

  3. Weed Cloth (If Applicable):

    • Lay Weed Cloth: Roll out weed cloth to prevent weed growth through the turf base. Overlap edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails. Trim the cloth to fit with a 1/4” border, avoiding deep nail placement to prevent dimpling.

  4. Turf Installation:

    • Align Turf: Use a straight edge or perpendicular edges to align the turf. Temporarily secure edges with nails while adjusting the turf.
    • Cut and Fit: Over-cut the turf by one inch along the edges for a proper fit, allowing for the tucking process.
    • Seam Turf: Use a seaming tool to cut the turf in an S-shape, avoiding visible seams. Install nails every 6 inches along edges, driving them 3/4 of the way down. Secure seams with 6-inch U-nails every 6 inches, ensuring they are level and hidden.
    • Tuck and Brush: Use a wonder bar to tuck edges against hardscapes or borders for a clean look. Brush the turf against the grain to lift fibers, then apply and spread infill or sand evenly to support the blades and add weight. Brush again to settle the infill and stabilize the turf, removing excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Clean and Level: Ensure the surface is clean, level, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

  2. Dry Lay and Alignment:

    • Dry Lay: Unroll the turf to check fit and alignment. Refer to the back of the turf for manufacturing details to determine fiber direction.

  3. Adhesive Application:

    • Apply Adhesive: Use adhesive or double-sided tape on the surface. If using a turf pad, install it with tape or glue.
    • Lay Turf: Position the turf and apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press down the turf across its width and length.

  4. Curing:

    • Allow to Cure: Keep the installation in dry conditions for 72 hours to ensure the adhesive cures properly.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Cleaning:

    • Sweep: Periodically sweep loose dirt, dust, and debris to maintain the appearance of the turf.

  2. Stains and Blemishes:

    • Cleaning Solution: For stains, clean with a warm water solution mixed with household detergent. Avoid using bleach.
    • Animal Urine: For animal urine, use a mixture of white distilled vinegar and water (equal parts). Flush thoroughly and vacuum any excess solution.

  3. Gum Removal:

    • Chewing Gum: Remove chewing gum from the turf surface using dry ice or refrigerant packets.

  4. Matting:

    • Brush: If the turf becomes matted, use a synthetic brush (avoid metal or wire bristles) to restore its appearance.
