Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Remove Existing Material: Clear the area of all grasses, sods, mulches, and debris. If landscaping around trees, shrubs, or utilities, mark these zones and ensure ample space around tree bases.
    • Cap and Relocate Sprinklers: Cap any unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate electrical sprinklers and wiring 6-8 inches inward from hardscapes or perimeters. Mark the locations of unused sprinklers.
  2. Base Installation:

    • Apply Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of DG, a mix of gravel and sand that facilitates drainage. Level and compact the base with a vibrating, tamping, and rolling process to achieve a flat surface. Wet the base to help it settle properly.
    • Turf Pad (Optional): If using a turf pad, cut a hole in the base to fit the size and depth of the pad.
  3. Weed Cloth (If Applicable):

    • Install Weed Cloth: Lay weed cloth to prevent weed growth through the turf base. Overlap edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails. Trim the cloth to fit, leaving a 1/4” gap along borders. Avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling.
  4. Turf Installation:

    • Align Turf: Position the turf with straight or perpendicular edges for alignment. Temporarily secure edges with nails while adjusting the turf.
    • Cut and Fit: Over-cut turf by one inch along edges for proper tucking.
    • Seam Turf: Use a seaming tool to cut turf in an S-shape to minimize visible seams. Install nails every 6 inches along edges, driving them 3/4 of the way down. Ensure nails are hidden by the grass blades and avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling. Secure seams with 6-inch U-nails, ensuring they are level and concealed.
    • Tuck and Brush: Use a wonder bar to tuck turf edges against hardscapes or borders for a neat finish. Brush the turf against the grain to lift the fibers, apply and spread infill or sand evenly, and brush again to integrate the infill into the turf base, removing excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Ensure Surface is Clean: Verify that the surface is level, clean, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.
  2. Dry Lay and Alignment:

    • Dry Lay: Unroll the turf and align it based on the backstamped manufacturing details for fiber direction.
  3. Adhesive Application:

    • Apply Adhesive: Use adhesive or double-sided tape to secure the turf. If using a turf pad, install it with tape or glue.
    • Lay Turf: Position the turf and apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf across its width and length.
  4. Curing:

    • Allow to Cure: Maintain dry conditions for 72 hours to ensure proper curing of the adhesive.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Cleaning:

    • Sweeping: Periodically sweep loose dirt, dust, and debris to keep the turf looking clean and fresh.
  2. Stains and Spills:

    • Cleaning Solution: For stains, use warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid bleach.
    • Animal Urine: Clean with a mixture of white distilled vinegar and water (equal parts). Flush thoroughly and vacuum excess solution.
  3. Gum Removal:

    • Chewing Gum: Use dry ice or refrigerant packets to harden and remove chewing gum from the turf.
  4. Matting:

    • Brush: Use a synthetic brush to lift matted grass fibers. Avoid metal or wire brushes as they can damage the turf.
