Commercial Flooring: Why the Hardest Jobs Come to FlooringInc
I have lost count of how many commercial buyers have called me after another supplier missed a delivery window and stalled the trades behind them. Most flooring companies are order takers. They have a catalog, a fixed set of shipping options, and a polite "we can't do that" the moment a request lands outside what their system was built for. Over the last 18+ years of running FlooringInc, I have watched a lot of commercial buyers learn that lesson the hard way, usually after a project was already on the schedule and the trades were already lined up.
We built FlooringInc to be the opposite kind of supplier. We started the company in 2007 out of Arizona to supply the hard jobs, and 18+ years later we ship rubber, carpet, vinyl, and specialty flooring to commercial buyers across the country, including the construction crews behind some of the largest active data center builds. Those are the jobs we want, the kind where the supplier has to actually do something instead of just process an order. If you are a general contractor, a facility manager, a procurement officer, or anyone trying to keep a commercial project on track when the timeline gets compressed and the spec gets specific, this page is for me telling you who we are and why those jobs end up on our floor.
I am admittedly biased. Feel free to check the work.
The TV builds nobody else would touch
I usually lead with two specific projects when I am explaining what we do, because they say more about how we operate than any spec sheet.
Back in 2011 we supplied the flooring for a roughly 8,000 square foot gym build on The Biggest Loser. We delivered the material and helped the production source a local installer to get it in on time. The show wasn't going to move its shoot date for a flooring supplier, and most of the industry would not (and did not) take that call. We did.
Around the same era we delivered flooring for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The whole premise of that show is a brutal, non-negotiable deadline measured in days, not weeks. The flooring needed to be on site fast, in the right quantity, and ready to install when the camera crews started building.
Key Point: When the deadline cannot move, most suppliers say no. Our team is built for exactly that call, and buyers remember it the next time a hard project lands on their desk.
Neither of those projects was a standard catalog order. Both got done, and the same capabilities show up every day on jobs nobody outside our industry will ever hear about.
The four things that make the hard jobs work
The TV stories are dramatic, but they are not outliers. Strip away the celebrity and the same four capabilities show up on a data center site, a university rec center, a senior living renovation, or a corporate gym build.
1. We hit delivery windows that scare other suppliers
A material delay is the single thing a GC, a facility manager, or a project manager fears most. It cascades into every other trade on the schedule. We speak directly to that fear because we built our business around it.
We have a real, stocked warehouse in Tennessee. Not a drop-ship arrangement we do not control. That distinction matters more than it sounds: when a competitor has to wait on a manufacturer to ship on the manufacturer's timeline, we are pulling from our own floor. Many of our products ship the same or next business day if in stock, and every product page on flooringinc.com shows you the lead time the moment you select a color and a size. You know exactly what to expect before you order, not after.

Our own warehouse is only part of how we hit tight windows. We also work directly with our manufacturing partners to know exactly what they have in stock and at which facility, week to week. That lets us route your order from the location closest to your jobsite, which usually means a lower freight cost and a faster transit time than any of our competitors can quote on the same product. Most online sellers do not bother with this kind of logistical legwork. We do, because solving freight on your behalf is the whole point of being a partner instead of an order taker. If you find a lower shipping rate or a faster transit time on the same product somewhere else, tell us. We will look at it and almost always find a way to beat it.
If the timeline gets tighter mid-project, you get a person on the phone who can actually do something about it. We have 7 inside sales reps and 8 customer service agents who personally expedite when a project demands it. Sending a contact form into a void gets you a different answer, usually a day too late.
2. We deliver in stages, synced to your build
On large commercial projects, the rubber flooring we ship is often the permanent rooftop layer. Not a temporary mat for the construction crew. Data centers are the clearest example. Once one of these buildings is live, the rooftop carries enormous HVAC systems, cooling equipment, generators, and a permanent network of maintenance pathways. Technicians and equipment are up there constantly. Without rubber underfoot, that traffic wears through a roof membrane in years instead of decades, and a roof membrane on a facility this size costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace. Protecting it is part of protecting operations, which is why so many of these facilities now specify rooftop rubber from the start.
The delivery side is where the work really shows up. These sites are enormous and they get built in phases. You cannot dump 165,000 square feet of rubber at the gate on day one and hope for the best. It would clog the site, sit in the wrong place, and end up moved twice before it ever gets installed.
We deliver staged across multiple truckloads, sourced from multiple production facilities, synced to the construction schedule and the crane windows, so the right material arrives at the right phase. Anyone can sell a roll of rubber. Coordinating phased, multi-truckload delivery against a contractor's schedule, with crane access and warehouse staging for the days the site cannot receive, is an operations discipline most online sellers do not have.
Right now we are doing exactly that on an active data center build. Roughly 165,000 square feet of permanent rooftop rubber, staged across multiple full truckloads from multiple production facilities, timed to the contractor's phased schedule. The job is running smoothly. The right material is showing up at the right phase. Nobody on the GC's team is calling us asking where their flooring is, because we already set up a weekly call with them to discuss exactly when and where on the site they need the next truckload delivered.

As AI and cloud build-outs drive one of the hottest construction categories in the country, projects like this one are becoming a larger and larger share of what our commercial team does. Permanent rooftop rubber for data centers is a category we are leaning into, and phased, schedule-synced delivery is how we win the work.
3. We source the right product, not the product we happen to stock
We hold direct relationships with most of the major flooring manufacturers in the United States. Shaw, Mannington, Mohawk, Joy Carpet, CoreTec, Foss, Rosco, Ecore, ARC, Pentz, Swisstrax, and many more. These are real, verifiable supplier relationships built over 18+ years.
What that means in practice is we are not boxed in by our own inventory. When a project calls for a specific material, thickness, or performance spec, we source the right product for the job. We do not push whatever is sitting in the warehouse just because it is easy. A supplier whose recommendation is quietly shaped by what they need to move is not actually giving you advice. They are giving you a sales pitch.

It also means we cut to fit. Rubber rolls are one of our largest niche flooring categories and we sell them in bulk commercial volumes, cut to the exact linear footage a job needs. A gym, an arena, or a job site gets exactly what the space requires. From a single weight room to a full facility, it is the same partner doing the work.
4. We are trusted by institutions that cannot take chances
Government agencies on GSA schedules, the U.S. military, school districts, and universities don't buy flooring on a whim. They buy through procurement, on purchase orders, with documentation requirements and zero tolerance for a vendor who cannot deliver. They have chosen us, repeatedly.
To date we have shipped more than 7,000 orders to .gov, .mil, and .edu buyers. That breaks down to over 1,300 from government agencies, nearly 1,200 from the U.S. armed forces, and more than 4,400 from colleges, universities, and school districts. These are institutional buyers who shop with us once and then come back when the next project lands.

For those buyers, the way we operate is itself a feature. We handle purchase orders cleanly. We process tax-exempt orders without making it complicated. We charge sales tax correctly in every jurisdiction we ship to. That precision is exactly what a government, healthcare, or university procurement office needs to see. Clean paperwork and predictable compliance reduce the risk on their side of the table, and reducing risk is what procurement is paid to do.
Key Takeaway: If a procurement office can buy from us without their compliance team flagging anything, your facility team can too.
Why this beats a catalog and a checkout button
Plenty of websites will sell you flooring. The difference shows up in everything that surrounds the product, and I will be specific about it because vague claims aren't worth much.
A real warehouse, not a distributor middleman. We control our stock and our ship dates. Many online flooring sellers are pure drop-shippers with no control over either. That is precisely why their lead times slip the moment a project is under pressure.
Named, spec-able product lines. Our brands give specifiers consistent named products they can write into a bid and re-order with confidence: Nitro for garage tile, ProStep and VersaStep for commercial dance studio flooring, and Traxxon for rubber rolls. That beats anonymous commodity flooring with a different SKU every time you reorder.
You get a rep, not a cart. Commercial buyers get a dedicated rep who handles samples, specs, volume pricing, logistics, and the paperwork side (PO and tax-exempt handling). I have lost count of how many times a customer has called me, emailed me, or left a public review just to tell us how much they appreciate working with their rep. Most of our sales crew has been in this business for a long time, and that tenure shows up in real product knowledge. When you call us about a commercial project, you are usually getting a rep who has been answering some version of your exact question for years, which is harder to find online than it should be. Our repeat commercial customers come back because of that relationship, not in spite of it.
Proof you can check. We have a 4.8 star average across more than 125,000 verified reviews on independent third-party sites. We also run a free commercial flooring sample program with free shipping, and we ship over 2,000 samples a month. A facilities manager or architect can physically vet a product before committing to a large order. We de-risk the decision before the clock even starts.
We go deep in a few categories on purpose. We are not a do-everything big box. We go deep in specific commercial niches: fitness and gym, garage and industrial, dance and performance, sports, the developing healthcare category, and the growing construction protection market. For a buyer who wants a partner that knows their use case, depth beats breadth every time.
Commercial flooring projects we say yes to
The easiest way to understand FlooringInc is to look at the range of jobs we say yes to.
A film and TV production flooring build with a deadline measured in days. A data center roof-protection rollout delivered truckload by truckload against a contractor's phased schedule. A senior living facility where the flooring has to be slip resistant, shock absorbing, and quiet underfoot because resident safety and staff fatigue are on the line. We also do university weight rooms, police and public works garages, and flagship commercial gym builds with the same crew.
Different industries, different stakes, different logistics, handled by the same team with the same flexibility. We are a great supplier when the job is small and the catalog already has what you need. We are an even better partner when the job gets tough: when the timeline is tight, the spec is unusual, or the project is too important to leave to a checkout button. Tell us what you need and let us take some of the logistical work off your plate.

If your project doesn't fit a catalog, let's talk
If you are working on a commercial project that doesn't fit neatly into someone else's process, talk to our commercial team. That might be a deadline that can't move, a site that needs staged delivery, a spec nobody stocks, or a procurement process that demands clean paperwork. We have done all of those, often at the same time.
Call our main line at (866) 416-6388 and ask for the sales team. Start a chat at flooringinc.com. Or request free samples and we will get them out to you the same day if you order before our cutoff. However you want to start, we will make sure you reach the right person to help with your project.
