Engineered planks are very easy to keep clean and maintain. Maintenance of the floor typically includes:
  • Daily or weekly dust mopping or sweeping may be needed to remove dirt, dust, and debris.
  • Do not use vacuums with rotating beater bars on hard surfaces.
  • Spills should be wiped up immediately.
  • Use walk-off mats at entrance doors and in front of the kitchen sink. Avoid rubber-backed or other non-ventilated mats or rugs. In the kitchen, use a rug in front of the working areas, such as the stove and sink, to prevent local premature wear.

Our Rio Grande Waterproof Oak Engineered Wood Flooring planks come 48" long.
Can engineered hardwood be installed on top of a ceramic floor?
Yes, you can install engineered hardwood over ceramic floors as long as they are flat and in generally good condition with no cracks. You will want to check that the floor is level and any low spots or grout lines are filled with a leveling compound to ensure moisture does not pool below the engineered wood planks where it could cause swelling over time.
Can I install in a 20' by 20' room with heavy furniture and a pellet stove? Can I install in a continuous 41' long strip between rooms without transition gaps? Can I install underneath kitchen cabinets? Weekend place may cool to 40 degrees, is this a problem?
Eric
Rio Grande Waterproof Oak engineered wood floors are a great addition to a weekend home. Installation can be done without transition strips as long as there is not a change in height between rooms. Engineered wood installation suggests letting the wood acclimate to your home for 24 hours before installation. During your install you would want to leave room around the perimeter and finish with a quarter round to cover the expansion gap. This gap allows your floor to expand and contract without buckling due to changes in the weather. Oak has a high Janka Hardness Rating which can handle heavy furniture, however it is always a good practice to place protection on table and chair legs to prevent excessive wear, such as furniture sliders or pads.
Can this floor be wet mopped?
Yes, Johnson Hardwood Rio Grande can be wet-mopped but not steam mopped.
