How Much Does it Cost to Install Laminate Flooring?

This is the part that’s a little tricky. The cost of installing laminate flooring really depends on a number of factors: where you live, the amount of labor you need, and whether or not you need to purchase an underlayment.

Of course, installation cost also includes the cost of disposing of your old flooring in addition to the cost of labor. Basically – a lot of things can affect the cost of installing laminate flooring.

However, for the sake of simplicity, I’ve included the low, average and high price of the flooring itself, plus the labor price (national average: $2-$6 sq/ft). This should give you a general idea about the installation cost of laminate flooring.

I do want to add that laminate flooring is also very DIY friendly, so you may be able to save on labor costs by having a friend help you install it yourself!

What Affects Laminate Flooring Cost?

what affects laminate
Several factors go into the pricing of laminate flooring. For example, some laminate flooring has a special feature, such as being water-resistant or waterproof. Laminate flooring cost may also vary by the thickness or width of the plank.

To give you a little more information on how laminate flooring is priced, let’s take a look at those important factors.

Laminate Flooring Thickness
Though this isn’t always the case, for the most part, the thicker the plank the more durable it is. That’s why the thickest of our laminate planks tend to be rated for commercial use. The thickness of the plank can also affect the price – though you’re also able to find affordable options at pretty much any thickness level.

Laminate Flooring Features
Some laminate flooring comes with extra luxury features. Apart from the standard laminate flooring, there’s also waterproof laminate flooring, water-resistant laminate flooring and flooring with underlayment attached.

You’ll find that laminate flooring that offers these great features come at a higher price point. Do we think it’s worth it? Definitely!

Waterproof and water-resistant laminate are great for families and pets who are prone to accidents and frequent messes. This quality ensures that your floor stays beautiful for years to come.

Additional Laminate Flooring Installation Costs

To help you get the best laminate flooring cost estimate, here are some additional cost factors you may not have thought of:

  • Molding: To keep your flooring looking sharp, you might need to replace or add molding to the room. Depending on the size of the room and the type of molding you need, the cost can add up.
  • Underlayment: Thought a few laminate planks have underlayment attached, most don’t. You’ll have to consider the cost of underlayment as well.
  • Flooring removal: If you have another flooring, there will probably be a disposal fee.
