Types of Kennel Flooring
Floor Mats
Our rubber dog kennel mats are our most popular products for doggy daycares. These rubber mats come either as mat kits or as stand-alone mats, and they’re incredibly easy to install.
With the mat kits, you can get a floor to fit small to large doggy daycares and kennels. Made from tightly interlocking rubber tiles, these mats keep liquids from penetrating through the surface, though there may be some leaking if the moisture isn’t cleaned up after a while.
To reduce the chance of leaking, the seams between the mats need to be sealed with a seam sealer glue. Additionally, the surface of the floor mats might need to be sealed with a rubber floor finish and sealer to ensure they are water-resistant.
Floor Rolls
Flooring rolls are made to cover large areas easily without requiring a lot of time and hassle with installation. There are also fewer seams with rolls compared to mats, so the chances of any moisture leaking to the subfloor are severely reduced.
To install kennel flooring rolls, you can either loose lay the floor and secure it with double-sided tape, or glue it down for a more permanent setup. These rolls can be made of either rubber or vinyl. Rubber rolls are typically more cost-effective for kennel flooring, which is one of the reasons they’re so popular. To ensure they are water-resistant, you may need to seal these floor rolls with a rubber floor finish and sealer. You can also seak any seams with a seam sealer glue.
Pet Turf
Treat your dogs to a luxury experience with plush, soft, and comfortable turf. If you need outdoor dog kennel flooring or dog run flooring that won’t stick out like a sore thumb in your yard, artificial grass is the perfect solution.
Pet turf is non-toxic and durable too, so you know your pets will be safe and they won’t be able to tear up the fake grass if they run around or try to dig. Perforated for optimal drainage, fake grass rolls are very easy to clean and maintain.
Kennel Flooring Material
Rubber Dog Kennel Flooring
Rubber flooring is a great choice for kennels because it’s easy to maintain, comfortable for your four-legged friends, and durable enough to handle the wear and tear even from large dogs. More rubber flooring is non-porous, which means moisture can’t seep into it and make it harder to clean. However, some rubber rolls may have a porous surface. To make porous rubber flooring liquid-resistant, use a floor finish and sealer over the whole surface, and add a sealer around the seams for extra security.
One drawback of rubber flooring is the smell. Initially, there may be a distinct rubber odor, but you can address this by mopping the floor a few times with a mild soap and water solution, and then letting the space air out.
Vinyl Dog Kennel Flooring
Vinyl rolls are a great alternative to rubber flooring for doggy daycares and kennels. Vinyl is nonporous and easy to clean, and are easily installed just like rubber rolls. Simply secure the floor with tape or glue, or loose lay it if you like. One benefit of vinyl roll flooring is that the rolls are larger than typical rubber rolls, so you may only need to buy one roll to cover the whole area. They also have more style options and can come with trendy patterns and even wood-look or stone-look surfaces.
However, unlike rubber, vinyl can stain. Even though these dog kennel rolls are non-porous, urine can react with the floor, causing a potential stain. To prevent stains, you can choose a black vinyl roll, or just make sure you try to clean up any messes as quickly as you can.
Polyethylene Dog Kennel Flooring
Our pet turf is made from polyethylene, a durable and non-toxic material that is safe for dogs, cats, and all the other members of your family. This material is UV stable, meaning it won’t fade in the sun. Plus, Polyethylene turf provides heat and frost resistance, making it great for any outdoor application. It will last through weather, heat, and even your pet running around and attempting to dig. Polypropylene is also a good option for this, but it’s not quite as soft.
Please note: Artificial grass can get hot under the sun, so if you choose to use it outside, consider using a cooling turf infill that will make the turf more comfortable for your pet. You can also choose an infill that will neutralize pet urine odors for a more pleasant-smelling space.
