A standard works only when every location can order the same floor.
Write the flooring standard down
A franchise flooring standard tells each location what to buy and how to install it. Without one, each owner picks a floor that looks close, and the brand look changes from store to store. Keep the standard short and specific.
- Product: the manufacturer, the product line and the size.
- Color: the exact color name, and the sample that you approved.
- Installation: the method, the adhesive or tape, and the trims at each doorway.
- Care: the cleaning steps and the cleaners that the manufacturer allows.
Use named product lines
Named product lines give specifiers a consistent product that they can write into a bid and reorder with confidence. Our own lines include Nitro garage tiles, ProStep and VersaStep dance rolls, and Traxxon rubber rolls. Anonymous commodity flooring can have a different SKU every time you reorder. That makes a standard hard to keep.
Plan for color and shade variation
Some materials vary from one production run to the next. On our 8mm Pre-Cut Rubber Rolls, Confetti and Natural colors use post-industrial recycled rubber, so some color and shade variation is natural. For rubber mats, the EPDM color fleck percentage sets the look. A higher percentage gives a more opaque and consistent color across the surface.
Vinyl planks can also vary. For high-variation TritonCORE Pro 7" planks, we recommend a loose lay before installation, so the plank arrangement looks good. Put this step in the standard for every location.
Send us the brand look and the store sizes. We will help you choose products that each location can order.
Reorders and repairs
Locations open, grow and repair floors at different times. Record the product name and color on every order, and keep the standard current. On our 8mm Pre-Cut Rubber Rolls page, orders over 1,000 sq. ft. can need more processing time before they ship. Plan large opening orders early, and keep spare pieces from the same order for repairs. Before a large reorder, ask for samples, and compare them with the floor that is already installed.
