Start from the opening date
A new gym has a fixed opening date, so plan the floor early. Decide the zones first: strength, cardio, functional training and any studio rooms. Each zone sets the thickness and the format you order. Then count back from the opening date for installation, delivery and order processing.
Measure and order once
- Measure: measure each room and calculate the number of rolls you need.
- Add extra: add 10% for trimming and adjustments.
- Mark the layout: mark where each roll goes with chalk or painter’s tape.
- Order once: order all rolls for one space at the same time. Color can vary between separate orders.
- Samples: order samples to compare thicknesses and colors before a large order.
Pre-cut or custom-cut
| Choose Quick Ship Pre-Cut if… | Choose custom-cut if… |
|---|---|
| The install date is in the next two weeks | The job is more than three or four weeks out |
| A color in the Pre-Cut palette works | You need a color outside that palette |
| Standard lengths (10, 15, 25 or 50 ft) fit the room | You need a specific length to avoid seams |
Pre-Cut rolls are already cut to a stocked length and wait in a regional warehouse. Custom-cut rolls go through a cutting line first, which adds a few business days. The rubber is the same. For a 10-foot run of 1/2″ rubber, use custom-cut, because 1/2″ Pre-Cut rolls start at 4′ x 15′.
Tell us the date and the zones. We can quote rolls that fit your schedule.
Shipping and acclimation time
Our Quick Ship guide says 8mm Pre-Cut rolls leave the warehouse in 1 to 3 business days. The 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″ Pre-Cut rolls leave in 3 to 5 business days. Transit time comes after that. Our roll pages also say orders over 1,000 square feet can need more processing time.
When the rolls arrive, lay them flat in the room so they can relax before you cut them. Our pages give two different times. The Rubber Gym Rolls installation steps say 24 to 48 hours. The Quick Ship guide says overnight for a small garage gym.
Who installs the floor
You can install a commercial gym floor yourself. A professional installation can give a precise and long-lasting result. Think about the project timeline, the size of the space and your budget before you decide. Rubber rolls have substantial weight, so a self-install needs extra help.
