Using One Rubber Floor Spec Across Several Gym Locations

A chain wants every club to feel the same. Write one floor standard, check it against the stock in each region, and keep installation and cleaning the same at every site.

Key takeaways

  • Write one floor standard: zone, product, thickness, color and install method
  • Check every new site ZIP against regional stock before you order
  • Loose lay or tape suits a site you may leave; glue-down suits a long-term site
  • Use one cleaning routine with no solvent or oil cleaners

Write one floor standard

A floor standard is a short document that every site follows. It lists each zone with its product, thickness, color and install method. With one standard, each new club orders the same floor, and members get the same feel in every location.

Item in the standardExample from our pages
Product lineOne line in many thicknesses, such as Rubber Gym Rolls in 1/8″, 1/4″, 8mm, 3/8″, 1/2″ and 3/4″
Zone and thicknessFree-weight floor: 3/8″, the most common thickness in commercial gyms
ColorOne color per zone, checked against the stock in each region
LengthsQuick Ship Pre-Cut lengths of 10, 15, 25 or 50 feet, or custom-cut for exact lengths
Install methodLoose lay, double-sided tape or glue-down
CleaningVacuum and damp mop; no solvent or oil cleaners

Check the standard against regional stock

Each site ships from the closest of our six warehouses in four regions. Shipping Saver covers Rubber Gym Rolls, Budget Rubber Rolls and our 1/4″, 8mm, 3/8″ and 1/2″ custom-cut rolls. It does not cover the 3/4″ Olympian rolls or the Next-Day rolls. Orders go to the closest stocking location automatically, so no one at the site picks a warehouse. Before a new site orders, enter its ZIP and check the items in your standard.

Some sites have a tight opening date. For these, the Quick Ship Pre-Cut program holds 1/4″, 8mm, 3/8″ and 1/2″ rolls in regional stock in the West, Midwest, Northeast and South.

Standardizing flooring across your clubs?

Send your floor standard and the site ZIPs. We can quote each site from its closest warehouse.

Choose an install method per site

The install method can differ by site. Loose-laid rubber stays in place by its weight. Double-sided tape around the perimeter gives a more secure floor. Loose-laid or taped rubber can move with you to a new location. Glue-down stops movement and curled edges, but you cannot reuse glued rolls. Glue-down is for rolls, because a seamless glued floor is difficult with rubber tiles.

One cleaning routine for every club

  • Daily care: vacuum regularly and damp mop sometimes with a pH-neutral cleaner.
  • Spills: clean up any large mess immediately.
  • One cleaner: a rubber floor cleaner and degreaser gives every site the same all-in-one cleaner.
  • Seams: use seam sealer where liquids could get through to the subfloor.
  • Finish: Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer gives a high-gloss finish and protects the floor.
  • Do not use: Pine-Sol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40 or paint thinner. They can damage the floor over time.
