Tax-Exempt Purchasing & School POs Explained

School business offices need clean paperwork. Here is how tax-exempt orders work on our site, what to have ready, and how purchase orders can be paid.

Key takeaways

  • Upload your certificate under My Account → Tax Exempt
  • Our team reviews certificates the same business day
  • Place orders while signed in to the account with the certificate
  • Purchase orders can be paid by credit card, wire transfer, or check
Send the certificate first, then place the order.

How tax-exempt orders work

Sign in and upload your tax-exemption certificate under My Account → Tax Exempt. Our team reviews it the same business day, and we email you when the review is done.

After we approve it, orders that you place while signed in are tax-exempt at checkout. This applies to deliveries to the certificate's state, until the certificate expires.

No account yet? You can upload the certificate on our Tax-Exempt Purchasing page. We add it to the account that uses the same email.

Only an approved certificate makes an order tax-exempt. Upload the certificate before you place the first order.

What to have ready

The upload form on our Tax-Exempt Purchasing page asks for the first four items below.

  • Organization name: the school or district name.
  • Order email: the email address that you use for orders.
  • State: the two-letter state of the exemption.
  • Certificate file: a PDF, PNG, or JPEG of up to 10 MB.
  • Vendor details: our Purchase Orders page lists our DUNS number, CAGE code, TIN, and legal business name, FlooringInc LLC.
  • W-9: request our W-9 from our support email.

Purchase orders

Purchase orders can be paid by credit card, wire transfer, or check. Send your exemption certificate before you send the purchase order.

We have shipped more than 4,400 orders to colleges, universities, and school districts. We handle their purchase orders and tax-exempt orders, and we charge sales tax correctly in every jurisdiction we ship to.

Our commercial team handles the paperwork side of the order, including purchase orders and tax-exempt handling. Clean paperwork and predictable compliance reduce the risk for your procurement office.

Avoid common mistakes

  • Sign in to the account with the certificate before you place the order.
  • Make sure the delivery state matches the certificate's state.
  • Upload a new certificate before the old one expires.
  • Use the same email for the certificate and for your orders.
  • Keep the reference number from the upload confirmation.
