Fit the job to the window, not the window to the job.
Map the school year
Start with the school calendar, not the flooring catalog. Mark every period when a room is empty, and every event that puts a crowd in the gym.
| Calendar window | Good fit |
|---|---|
| Summer break | Large rooms, full replacements, glue-down installs |
| Winter and spring breaks | Single rooms with floors that go down fast |
| Weekends | Spot repairs, such as one damaged tile |
| Event days | Gym floor protection, not installation |
Floors for short windows
- Carpet tiles: install with double-sided carpet tape or adhesive. Some have a peel-and-stick backing. Our carpet tile post says they can go down in an afternoon.
- Interlocking carpet tiles: they need no adhesive, and you can lift or move them later.
- Loose-lay rubber: rubber is heavy enough to stay in place with no adhesive. You can lift it and move it later.
- Rubber and carpet tiles for repairs: if one tile is damaged or stained, replace that tile instead of the whole floor.
Glue-down rubber is a permanent installation, and you cannot reuse glued rolls. Keep glue-down work for a longer window, such as summer.
Tell us the break dates and the room. We will suggest a floor that fits the window.
Protect the gym on event days
Many school events take place in the gym, such as graduation, prom, and award ceremonies. Gym floor covers keep the gym floor from scuffs from foot traffic, chairs, and tables.
Vinyl Gym Floor Covers are custom cut to the length you need at no extra cost. They come in several weights, and the warranty length depends on the weight that you choose.
- Vinyl roll covers: anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and resistant to mildew and rot. Rolls are the easiest option to install and clean.
- Carpet-topped tiles: take more time to lay out, but give a more formal look and can make runners or rug areas. Tiles suit smaller spaces.
- Storage and winders: storage racks hold the rolls, and an electric power winder cuts installation and removal time.
