How To Determine Gym Floor Cover Size: Gym Floor Covers are constructed in 10’ wide sections for easy handling. When figuring the size of the cover you need, we suggest adding 6”-12” for overlapping each section. For example, for a 65’ x 90’ floor, order 7 sections measuring 10’ x 90’ each.

How To Determine Gym Floor Cover Weight: Gym Floor Covers are offered in several weights. Below are our recommendations for which weight will work best for your application.

8 oz. cover is recommend for 1-3 uses per year.
10 oz. cover is recommended for 1-3 uses per year.
18 oz. cover is approved for 6 uses per year or less.
22 oz. cover is recommended for 6-12 uses per year.
27 oz. cover is great for 13-23 uses per year.
32 oz. cover is best for 24 uses or more per year.

Recommended Uses: You can use Gym Floor Covers in multi-purpose gymnasiums as floor protection for banquets, proms, graduations, concerts, special events, fundraisers, high schools, grade schools, colleges, arenas, and anywhere a protective floor cover is desired.

How To Determine How Many Rolls To Order: It may be as simple as measuring the length and width of the area to be covered, and dividing the width by 9.5 to determine how many rolls you will need. Gym Floor Covers are easy to install. Pair with our Mobile Storage Rack, Storage Rack Cover, Vinyl Floor Tape- Full Case and Walk Behind Tape Dispenser for quick deployment and convenient storage.

Installation:

Installing Gym Floor Covers is a two person job, and should take just 10 or 20 minutes for a typical basketball court.

Begin by rolling the full rack to one corner of the gym floor. Lock it into place with the wheel brakes before loosening the yellow safety bar on each end of the roll. Each person can then grab a corner of a cover roll and together walk the cover section down the length of the floor.

Once one section is down, unroll any extra still attached to the rack, unlock the wheels, and move the rack over approximately 10 feet. Center the rack over the next section of the gym floor to be covered, lock the wheels again, and repeat the process.
The rest of the rolls of GymGuard are deployed this way until the floor is fully covered. Keep in mind that there should be 6 to 12 inches of overlap between strips of GymGuard for complete coverage and to ensure dirt and trash does not get to the floor underneath.
To protect against liquid spills and to eliminate any risk of tripping, use our specially formulated Vinyl Mat Tape- Full Case to connect sections together. Tape can be applied with either our handheld dispenser or optional Walk-Behind Tape Dispenser. The Walk-Behind Tape Dispenser allows convenient application without bending or kneeling, and greatly speeds the process. Our Vinyl Mat Tape is formulated so that it does not leave any sticky residue when removed. Use of other types of tape is not recommended, as they can be more difficult to remove and can damage the cover.

How to Retract/Stow Your Gym Floor Covers:

Gym Floor Covers are easy to clean and pack up after events, taking two people a half hour or less.

To start, remove and dispose of any gymguard tape and fold the last 10 feet of the first section back onto itself. Ruffle the section all the way down its length to get air underneath and break the seal with the floor. Center your storage rack over the end where the cover is peeled back and lock the wheels. Pick up the end of the cover and clip it onto a roller, filling the bottom of the rack first. Remove the blue endcaps from the roller, and insert the aluminum handcranks into either side. Start winding up the cover together. Each person should use their free hand to keep the cover centered as it’s rolled up.

After the section has been rolled up, tighten the yellow safety bars to prevent shifting and unrolling, and replace the endcaps. Then, unlock the rack and move it into place over the next section. We recommend flipping the rack around between each section to alternate which side of the rack is loaded.
Optionally, the Power Winder can be used in place of hand cranks to greatly speed the process. This tool is inserted into one side of the roller in the same way as a hand crank, and allows a single person to roll up the fabric safely, without manual arm and shoulder work. A second person is still needed to help guide the fabric straight onto the roller.
Also available is our optional Self Cleaning Brush Assembly, which attaches to the base of the rack. By feeding the Gym Floor Cover sections underneath the brush while rolling them up, trash and debris will be swept off the cover and collected in a single area for easy disposal.
When the cover is fully stowed, we recommend covering the rack with our Storage Rack Cover. This will keep the Gym Floor Covers clean and prevent people from leaning or climbing on the rack.

Cleaning:

To clean your Gym Floor Covers, sweep or brush off loose debris. Our gym floor covers are made of PVC coated fabric and are like any vinyl flooring or tile in terms of durability and ease of cleaning. You can use a mild detergent to clean most stains.

How can I maintain my gym floor cover so it will last?

Before rolling up the covers onto the rack, use the Self Cleaning Brush Attachment (or a broom) and mild detergent to clean the cover and remove spills, stains, and debris. Having dirt, food or drink stuck between the covers during storage will wear away the coating and may also stain the covers permanently.

Keep your Gym Floor Covers rolled on the Mobile Storage Racks when they are not in use. This keeps them protected from creasing and off the ground, away from unnecessary foot traffic. When the floor mats are on the storage rack, there is less opportunity for damage while being stored.

A Storage Rack Cover, which covers the rack and the Gym Floor Covers, will deter students from climbing on the rack, which is a safety hazard. The cover will also prevent damage to the rack and floor covers and keep the covers protected from dust and leaks.

Please note: This is not a stain-proof product. Leaving certain harsh chemicals on the rolls for an extended period may cause some staining and/or damage.

For our Gym Floor Covers, we cannot provide the mil thickness because the fabric cannot be measured in mil thickness as a standard. Only weight per sq yd.

You can put our Gym Floor Covers down to protect your gym floor and also play tennis on. You will need to secure the covers to the subfloor so that they do not move. The best way to do this would be to cover your gym floor with and underlay, and then place the gym floor cover over top of that. You can adhere the gym floor cover with double sided tape or a pressure sensitive adhesive.

For regular winter traffic over a hardwood floor it is suggested that you choose Gym Floor Covers of 18oz or more. This is partly due to the durability and partly to do with the longer warranty associated with the heavier products. The more traffic you might be anticipating the heavier gym floor cover is suggested. The best price and warranty combination for protecting wood flooring is the 22oz gym floor cover, it would be able to handle moderate to heavy traffic with dirty winter boots.

Gym Floor Covers are a great way of protecting your wood floors if you are using rubber mats. Gym floor covers are a tough vinyl fabric and when put overtop a clean surface are excellent at preventing rubber damage on the wood finish.

Gym Floor Covers could be used for something like that, but because they aren't meant to be moved on athletically like that, it may be better to go with a dedicated garage roll like our Nitro Rolls. To accommodate the movement that is often done with most exercise you'd want a stiffer surface that is meant to handle lateral movements.
