Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Clear the Area: Remove all existing grasses, sods, mulches, and debris from the installation area. If working around trees, shrubs, flowers, or other features, mark these zones and ensure enough space around tree bases.
    • Cap and Relocate Sprinklers: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate electrical sprinklers and wiring inward by 6-8 inches from any hardscapes or perimeter to avoid damage. Mark the location of unused sprinklers.

  2. Base Installation:

    • Decomposed Granite (DG): Apply a 3-inch layer of DG, a gravel and sand mixture, to ensure proper drainage. Level and compact the base by vibrating, tamping, and rolling until it is completely flat. Wet the base to help it settle.
    • Turf Pad (Optional): Cut a hole in the base to fit the size and depth of the turf pad, if used.

  3. Weed Cloth (If Applicable):

    • Lay Weed Cloth: Roll out weed cloth to prevent weeds from growing through the turf base. Overlap the edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails. Trim to fit, leaving a 1/4” border. Avoid driving nails too deeply to prevent dimpling.

  4. Turf Installation:

    • Align Turf: Position the turf with straight or perpendicular edges for alignment. Temporarily secure the edges with nails while adjusting the turf.
    • Cut and Fit: Over-cut the turf by one inch along the edges to ensure a proper fit for tucking.
    • Seam Turf: Use a seaming tool to cut the turf in an S-shape to minimize visible seams. Install nails every 6 inches along the edges, driving them 3/4 of the way down. Secure seams with 6-inch U-nails every 6 inches, ensuring they are level and hidden.
    • Tuck and Brush: Tuck the turf edges against hardscapes or borders using a wonder bar for a clean finish. Brush against the grain to lift the fibers, then apply and spread infill or sand evenly across the turf. Brush again to integrate the infill into the turf base, removing any excess debris.

Indoor Installation

  1. Surface Preparation:

    • Clean and Level: Ensure the surface is clean, level, and dry. Suitable surfaces include concrete, dusting concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

  2. Dry Lay and Alignment:

    • Dry Lay: Unroll the turf and align it according to the backstamped manufacturing details for fiber direction.

  3. Adhesive Application:

    • Apply Adhesive: Use adhesive or double-sided tape on the surface. If using a turf pad, install it with tape or glue.
    • Lay Turf: Position the turf and apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
    • Roll: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf across its width and length.

  4. Curing:

    • Allow to Cure: Keep the installation in dry conditions for 72 hours to ensure proper curing of the adhesive.

Maintenance

  1. Regular Cleaning:

    • Sweep: Periodically sweep loose dirt, dust, and debris to maintain the appearance of the turf.

  2. Stains and Blemishes:

    • Cleaning Solution: For stains, use a warm water solution with household detergent. Avoid using bleach.
    • Animal Urine: Clean animal urine with a mixture of white distilled vinegar and water (equal parts). Flush thoroughly and vacuum any excess solution.

  3. Gum Removal:

    • Chewing Gum: Use dry ice or refrigerant packets to remove chewing gum from the turf.

  4. Matting:

    • Brush: If the turf becomes matted, use a synthetic brush (avoid metal or wire bristles) to restore its appearance.
