Installation
Installation Instructions
Preparation:
- Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and free of any debris.
- Plan your layout by measuring the area and determining the desired installation pattern (monolithic, stripes, 50% offset, etc.).
- Leave a 1/2" gap between the tiles and the walls, columns, cabinets, or any other fixed object. The tiles should sit snugly against each other — the gap belongs at the perimeter, not between the tiles.
Installation:
- Begin in one corner of the room, laying the first tile and ensuring it is properly aligned.
- Interlock the next tile with the previous one by pressing down firmly to engage the hidden interlock system.
- Continue laying tiles, following your chosen pattern, until the entire floor is covered.
- For edge tiles, measure and cut to fit using a utility knife or tile cutter.
Finishing:
- Once all tiles are installed, walk over the entire floor to ensure all tiles are securely interlocked.
- Install baseboards or trim as desired to give the floor a finished look.
Why the gap matters:
Slate Flex Nitro Tiles are a floating floor. Flexible PVC expands and contracts as garage temperatures swing between summer and winter, so the floor is built to move as one sheet rather than being fixed down. Two things make that work: every joint in the interlock carries a designed-in tolerance, and the 1/2" perimeter gap gives the whole field somewhere to go. Leaving no gap at the walls is what makes a tile floor lift at the edges.

Can I park a car on Slate Flex Nitro tiles?
Yes. These flexible PVC tiles are rated for vehicle traffic and for use with a floor jack. They resist most vehicle and household chemicals. Tool chests and anything else on wheels or casters roll over them well, and the tiles have some give underfoot. Put protective pads under heavy stationary equipment or furniture so it does not mark the surface.

No. The tiles have a hidden interlock and need no adhesive. Lay the first tile in a corner, then press each new tile down firmly to snap the lock. Cut the edge pieces to fit with a utility knife or tile cutter. Leave a 1/2 inch gap at walls, columns, cabinets, and anything else fixed in place. Keep the tiles tight to each other. Flexible PVC expands and contracts with garage temperature swings, and that gap is what stops the edges lifting.

Each 12 inch by 24 inch tile covers 2 square feet, and tiles are sold one at a time. Divide your floor area in square feet by 2 for the base count. Add a few extra tiles for the cuts along the walls, and a few more as spares. Each tile is 3mm (0.118 inches) thick and weighs about 3 pounds.

Not always. These tiles are made in batches, and color can vary a little between batches. Black, dark gray, and light gray vary the most. A sample may differ slightly from the tiles you receive, and tiles bought months apart may not match. Order the whole floor at once, plus a few spare tiles for future repairs.

Really happy with the quality of the floor, it does not make any clacky noises when you step on it. It was also very easy to install, all I needed was a rubber mallet and I used my multitool to cut the tiles when needed. I found it easiest to score it with a utility knife, then cut with the multitool to finish them off. I love the look, feel, and how the connections are hidden as well. Excellent quality, well worth it.

Absolutely love this floor - I received and installed it on the same day. I went with all black, very nice quality, love that the seams are hidden underneath. To cut it, I used my multitool and cut it over a piece of plywood so I did not damage the floor, it was very easy to cut that way. Overall, I am very happy with this!

I bought and installed these a few years ago and they have met all expectations, held up well, not shifted and still look great today. You must clean and sweep up the salt water from winter and wet down to retain nearly like new appearance. We covered up a severely pitted garage floor and then brought the tiles up to where the few feet of new concrete had been installed to give us a level surface for the new garage doors. Worked perfectly, exactly as planned.
