Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

1. Surface Preparation:

  • Clear the Area: Remove all existing grass, sod, mulch, and debris from the installation area. If installing around trees, shrubs, or other obstacles, mark these areas and leave sufficient space around tree bases.
  • Adjust Sprinklers and Wiring: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks and relocate any necessary sprinklers and electrical wiring inward by 6-8 inches to avoid damage. Secure these items with U-shaped nails.

2. Base Construction:

  • Install Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of decomposed granite, which is a mixture of gravel and sand that aids in drainage. Distribute and level the DG evenly. Wet the base to settle the material and compact it using a vibrating plate compactor or hand tamper until the surface is flat and stable.
  • Turf Pad (if applicable): If using a turf pad, cut a hole in the DG base to match the size and depth of the pad.

3. Weed Cloth (Optional):

  • Lay Weed Cloth: Roll out weed cloth to prevent weed growth through the turf. Overlap edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails, ensuring not to drive nails too deeply to prevent dimpling. Trim the cloth to fit the area, leaving a 1/4” gap along borders.

4. Turf Placement:

  • Position Turf: Roll out the turf, aligning it with straight or perpendicular edges for precision. Secure temporary nails along the edges to hold the turf in place while fitting the opposite edges. Overcut the turf by one inch along the edges for a proper fit.
  • Seaming: Use a seaming tool to join turf edges, cutting in an S-shape to avoid visible seams. Install nails every six inches along the edge, driving them down three-quarters of the way. Avoid driving nails too deep to prevent dimpling. Secure seams with six-inch U-nails, ensuring they are level with the turf.

5. Final Touches:

  • Tucking: Use a wonder bar to tuck the turf edges against any hardscape or border for a clean look.
  • Infill Application: Evenly spread infill or sand across the turf. Brush with a power brush or stiff-bristled broom to lift the blades and force the infill into the base. Remove excess debris and ensure the turf settles properly.

Indoor Installation

1. Surface Preparation:

  • Clean and Level: Ensure the installation surface is clean, dry, and level. Suitable surfaces include concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

2. Dry Lay and Alignment:

  • Check Fit: Dry lay the turf to check alignment and minimize variations. Manufacturing details on the backing will help determine fiber direction.

3. Adhesive Application:

  • Apply Adhesive: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape to the surface. Lay the turf, ensuring it adheres well.

4. Seaming and Rolling:

  • Seam Sealer: Apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
  • Roll Turf: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf into place.

5. Curing:

  • Allow Curing Time: Keep the installation in dry conditions for 72 hours to ensure proper adhesive curing.

6. Maintenance:

  • Cleaning: Periodically sweep or vacuum to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris.

Maintenance

1. Regular Cleaning:

  • Debris Removal: Sweep or vacuum the turf regularly to maintain cleanliness.

2. Spot Cleaning:

  • Stains: Use mild soap and water for spot cleaning; avoid harsh chemicals.

3. Brushing:

  • Fiber Maintenance: Brush the turf fibers with a stiff-bristled broom or power brush to keep them upright and maintain a natural look.

4. Infill Maintenance:

  • Reapply Infill: Periodically check and replenish infill to ensure proper cushioning and support.

5. General Care:

  • Pet Areas (if applicable): Rinse with water as needed and ensure proper drainage to prevent odors.
