Manufacturers recommendations for initial unpacking:
- To begin unpacking your Wrestling Mats, the plastic bags should be removed
by cutting the zip tie at the top and then pulling the bags off. It may
be easier to pull them off with the mats laid on their side.
- If your mat was packaged with a layer of cardboard and plastic
wrap, carefully remove it with scissors or a utility knife. Remove
the plastic wrap, then the lids, and finally the cardboard wrap.
- Once you have removed the packaging, you should roll out the
mat sections, inspect them and allow the mat to “air-out” for
about 30 minutes.
- Because water is used in the manufacturing
process there may be some moisture on the surface. This should
evaporate in several minutes if the air is circulated. If there is excessive moisture, leave the mats rolled up and standing on end. You can use your new Wrestling Mat the same day it is delivered. No
curing time is required.
Please Note: It is suggested to keep the bags your mats were shipped in for use as storage
bags.
Wrestling Mats are very easy to clean. Each mat is constructed of durable closed cross-linked polyethylene sports foam and a tough vinyl top surface with built in antimicrobial protection. Mats should be cleaned thoroughly and regularly to maintain optimal hygiene.
Manufacturer's cleaning recommendations are as follows:
- Your mats should be swept with a dry mop or push broom before each use and cleaned with a disinfectant mat cleaner after
every use. There are a number of quality mat cleaners available.
- Special
bucket-less mops are also available for easier cleaning. Allow the
mats to dry completely before rolling up and storing.
- Street shoes should never be allowed on the mats. The health of
your athletes and the life and appearance of your mats are directly
related to your cleaning regimen.
- Don’t use any short-cuts or allow non-wrestlers/athletes on the mats.
-
For scuff marks and stubborn stains or mildew, you can use a
household spray cleaner with bleach and scrub the mat with a
plastic-bristle brush or Scotch® Scouring Pad. Goo Gone® and
mineral spirits can also be used in small amounts.
Manufacturer's Detailed Cleaning/ Sanitizing Instructions:
- Vinyl mats should be disinfected before or after each use. There are a variety of mat cleaners on the market that are recognized by the EPA for use against SARS-CoV-2, including Husky 800 and mPerial cleaners, We also recommend ProKure™ V Liquid Disinfectant/ Virucide/ Deodorizer as an alternative.
1) Pre-clean heavily soiled areas.
2) Dilute solution, using manufacturer’s guidelines.
3) Apply with mop, handheld sprayer, or electrostatic sprayer.
4) Surface must stay wet for specified amount of time (refer to product label)
5) Rinse with clean water or allow to air dry. Note: These are general guidelines. Please refer to product label for detailed instructions.
Manufacturer's storage recommendations are as follows:
- We recommend that the rolls be stored
standing on end, but they may also be
stored on their sides and stacked. It
is important that they are stored on a
clean, smooth, flat surface and away
from any sharp objects; storage bags
are recommended.
- Temperature does
not affect the mats and they can be
stored in areas without heat or AC. If
they are extremely cold (below freezing), you should wait for them to warm up before unrolling.
- It is suggested to keep the bags your mats were shipped in for use as storage
bags.
NWCA maintanence recommendations are as follows:
- WASH, WASH, WASH both sides of your mats.
- Use a soft, bristled broom to remove as much of the loose dirt as possible. Use a disinfectant cleaner designed for wrestling mats and/or vinyl surfaces. Using a mop or soft cloth to wet the mat with warm, cleaning solution. Apply as much cleaning solution to the mat surface as possible without harming the floor surface. Do NOT allow water to seep underneath mat. It is important to change the cleaning solution often. After removing all the cleaning solution from the mat’s surface, use clean water and a clean mop, sponge or cloth to remove any cleaning residue from the mat surface. Allow the mat to fully dry. This helps decrease the formation of mildew. Using a fan will accelerate drying time.
- Manufacturers can incorporate antimicrobial protection into your mats surface.
- This is effective against most common bacteria, yeasts, molds and fungi that cause stains and odors. It is not designed to protect users from disease-causing microorganisms, however it will help fight microbes and keep your mats cleaner between normal cleanings. Proper maintenance, care and cleaning of the wrestling mat must still be performed on a regular basis.
- Properly store and protect your mats from damage.
- Cross-linked polyethylene mats can be rolled with the wrestling surface in and stacked in a convenient place or locked room within the school or facility to prevent vandalism to the exposed foam. Mats can be stored on a specially designed mat rack system or simply strapped and stacked in a safe, easily accessible location. Mats should never be left or stored on mat transporters that can cause the foam to compress, eliminating the shock-absorbency characteristics of the foam core.
