Types of Peel and Stick Carpet TIles

Indoor

Indoor carpet squares are perfect for all interior applications, including basements, bedrooms, indoor patios, and more. It’s a soft, cost-effective flooring that’s easy to clean and maintain. It can hold up to the wear and tear of indoor use, but lots of moisture can pose a challenge.

Outdoor

Yes, carpet really can be used outside! Outdoor carpet tiles are specifically designed to resist the mold and mildew that comes from high-moisture areas. And color fading? Forget about it. Outdoor carpet is made from fade-free materials, so it will look great even after extended exposure to sunlight. Plus, you don’t just have to use it outside. It’s a great option for indoors as well.

Material

Nylon

Nylon is highly durable, static-free, and a great fiber for indoor carpets. Nylon is usually treated with a stain-blocking technology that helps it stay beautiful, longer. This material remains one of the most popular fibers for making carpet.

Polyester

Polyester is mostly made from recycled materials, which makes it a great choice for eco-friendly flooring. It’s slightly less expensive than nylon, and almost just as durable. It’s extremely fade and stain-resistant. Polyester also usually has the widest range of color choices.

Olefin

Olefin is a natural stain-resistant fiber. The fibers are dyed as they’re being created, which results in color throughout the fiber, and not just on the surface. Olefin is a low static, virtually fade resistant, carpet fiber.

Triexta

Triexta is one of the most eco-friendly carpet fibers on the market because it’s made from corn glucose. There’s a lot of science that goes into it, but basically, Triexta offers you a naturally stain-resistant product that’s cheaper than nylon.

Backing for Peel and Stick Carpet

The majority of peel and stick carpet tiles don’t have what we would officially call a backing. Instead, the bottom of the tile is just the bottom of the carpet fibers and the glue that keeps it all together. The peel and stick adhesive is pre-applied to this surface, so when you peel back the plastic cover to install the carpet tile, you’re looking at the carpet fibers.

However, there are some peel and stick carpet tiles that do come with real backings, and it’s important to understand what these features do for you.

Polyurethane Cushion Backing

When you want to add an extra bit of plushness, go for a carpet tile with a pre-attached padding. You still get the convenience of a peel and stick tile, but with the bonus of a thick, comfortable carpet pad as well. It’s the best of both worlds!

How to Install Peel-and-Stick Carpet Tiles

If you want simplicity, peel and stick carpet tiles are the easiest to install. The adhesive is already applied to each tile and all you have to do is pull back the plastic sheet to expose it. Simply place the peel and stick carpet tile on the floor, and press down to adhere it to the floor.

When you run up against a wall or other obstruction and need to cut an adhesive carpet square, just use a utility knife and cut along the bottom of the tile. Additionally, you should always check the manufacturer’s suggestions for the most accurate advice on installation and maintenance.

"Beautiful addition to our hot tub patio! So much nicer on the feet, too! I am a 69 year old woman and had no problems putting down my carpet tiles. They stick securely to the cement flooring. Water from our sprinkler system hits the edge of it daily and no signs of the adhesive losing its grip. I love the tiles and adding them has made our basement walkout patio a comfortable and great place to gather!"
