Maintenance Guide for 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls:

Caring for your rubber flooring is essential to ensure its longevity and maintain its quality. Here are some tips for maintaining your 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls:

  • Regularly vacuum loose debris, crumbs, and dust from the surface of the rubber flooring.
  • Occasionally damp mop the flooring with a mild soap and water solution. We recommend using Dawn dish detergent or Tide laundry detergent.

Note: Avoid using any solvent or oil-based cleaners such as Pinesol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, paint thinner, or any other harsh chemicals that may cause damage to the rubber flooring over time.

For more detailed cleaning and maintenance instructions, please refer to our Rubber Flooring Cleaning and Maintenance Instructions guide.

When installing rolled rubber flooring, it is recommended that you use an adhesive to prevent the rolls from moving around or sliding apart between adjacent rolls. The most common methods of adhering rubber rolls to the subfloor are:

A: Double-Sided Tape Installation
  1. First, clean your subfloor so that it is free of all dust, dirt, and debris.
  2. Loose lay your rolls in the room as you would like them to look after a complete installation. Let the rolls relax for 24-48 hours to ensure the proper installation of your new flooring.
  3. Note: Rolls may be directional, so make sure the color matches on each roll. If the roll colors do not match, flip them or turn them 180 degrees to ensure the color matches.
  4. Make any necessary cuts to the rolls to fit them into the room using a straight edge and a utility knife with a fresh blade. We recommend leaving a gap around the rolls roughly the thickness of the rolls being used to account for expansion and contraction.
  5. Roll up the rolls at one end of the room. Apply double-sided tape to the floor along the perimeter of each roll.
  6. Place the rubber rolls back into position on top of the double-sided tape.

B: Glue Installation
  1. First, clean your subfloor so that it is free of all dirt, dust, and debris. Also, when gluing your flooring down, it is recommended that the subfloor is free of any moisture.
  5. Apply adhesive to the subfloor using a trowel or roller, following the manufacturer's instructions.
  6. Roll out the rubber rolls onto the adhesive, making sure to align them properly and smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles.
  7. Trim any excess material and allow the adhesive to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Do you carry outdoor rubber rolls? If so what is the largest you carry I would need (1) 21'x 21' ?
Anonymous
All of our rubber rolls can be used outdoors. For the size you are looking for, we would suggest our 8mm Strong Rubber Rolls. Here you can cut the rolls to your desired length. The rolls are 4' wide so you will need 5 rolls to cover area 21' long or you can go with 4 rolls which will be a little less than your area at 21' long.
Has anyone installed this product on walls for protection?
David Sepke
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls and many of our rubber flooring products have been installed on walls for protection. To get these rolls to stick to the walls, we recommend using our Polyurethane adhesive.
Is this rubber Food Safety compatible?
Anonymous
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls would not be food-safety approved. They can be used as matting, but not as a full flooring surface.
Can your rubber flooring be laid over hardwood flooring? And is there a way to secure it without using carpet tape? I would be hesitant to use double-sided tape on the hardwood that is currently in the room.
Eric
You can install our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls over hardwood flooring. Installing our rubber flooring over hardwood will not stain it. If you are concerned it will, we recommend placing a plastic sheet under the rubber flooring. These rubber rolls are pretty heavy, so for most installations, no tape or glue is necessary.
Can the 8mm rubber flooring be installed over concrete?
Marc
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be installed over concrete and any solid flat surface. When installing over vinyl, there is potential for the rubber flooring to stain the vinyl, so we typically don't recommend rubber over it.
Can I use this outdoors?
Anonymous
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be used outdoors. The rolls are not UV stable, which means they will fade in direct sunlight.
Can rubber flooring be used in a garage where cars will be parked?
Anonymous
Our 8mm Pre-Cut Rubber Rolls can be used in a garage where cars will be parked. The only issue you may run into is that the floor may degrade when in contact with oil from your car or tires. Rule of thumb for our rubber flooring is that rubber flooring and oil don't mix, so if your car is in tip-top shape, you will not have any issues.
I would like to know if I can use this to place over carpet in a room that I am making a home gym?
Kim
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be placed over low pile commercial carpet with ease. If your carpet is a high pile carpet, there may be some separation in the floor, but depending on what you are doing on the floor, it may not be an issue. If the carpet is a light colored carpet, we do recommend placing a plastic sheet between the carpet and rubber to reduce the potential for staining.
I'm looking for a new floor for my salon. Looking at rolls because I don't want to see joints. Is your product resistant to chemicals i.e. Hair color, perm solution? As much as I like the rubber, the 8 mm, commercial roll, would it be to to soft under feet should clients be wearing high heels? Would such shoes create holes in the flooring?
Jason
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls are resistant to most chemicals outside of any petroleum based products. So in your salon, the floor shouldn't get destroyed by the chemicals used in salons. Our rubber flooring is very dense and would not be damaged by high heels. Rubber is very shock absorbent so it will provide you with ample comfort under foot.
Can you use your product in a laundry room?
Anonymous
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be used in a laundry room. These rubber rolls are resistant to mold and mildew and are water resistant.
Do you have a rubber gym floor mat that can be rolled out and then rolled back up when not needed?

Could these rolls be used for making outer soles on sandals?
Chetwynd Haynes
Great question! I couldn't see why not! Our rubber flooring is made from similar material to rubber soles found on shoes.
Can your product be used for office flooring? And how does it hold up to desks, chairs, and file cabinets sitting on it for long periods of time? Also for maintenance, if there was a spill of water, coffee, etc. if not cleaned up properly will bacteria grow.
Dave
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be used as flooring in offices and has. Our Rubber flooring is meant to handle heavy weight equipment, so desks, chairs, filing cabinets and chairs will not affect the floor. If you were to spill anything on the floor, as long as it's cleaned in a timely fashion, there would be no issues with cleaning it up. Our rubber flooring is water resistant, and most liquids will pool up on top of the flooring. Rubber is naturally mold and mildew resistant, so the only time you will see any growth would be from organic matter being left on the floor for a long period.
Can these be used inside a standing shower?
James Reffi
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be used in inside a standing shower. Rubber is more slip resistant when wet and more slip resistant than tile.
Can this be used under a vinyl (marley) dance floor?

We are considering installing this in our kitchen because we are on a concrete slab. Can this function effectively in a kitchen with high traffic? Also, how heavy are the rolls and are they too difficult for one person to install in a galley kitchen?
Angela Forster
You can use our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls as flooring in a high traffic kitchen. These rubber rolls are very easy to clean and are mold and mildew resistant. These rubber rolls are also very slip-resistant when wet. Our 25' long rolls are approx. 250 lbs. and our 50' long rolls are approx. 500 lbs. We recommend using the buddy system when moving the rolls to the area where they will be installed.
I need rubber mats for an obedience dog show ring. The ring size is 40'x50' I have ordered samples but wonder if you have a recommendation?
Susan Bell
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be used as flooring for a dog obedience show. Our rubber rolls are very popular as pet flooring and are commonly used as doggy daycare flooring and as dog agility training flooring. Our rubber rolls are very easy to install and maintain and are resistant to mold and mildew growth. To make our rubber rolls truly liquid resistant, we recommend using our Rubber Floor Finish and Sealer on the floor. Also, at the seams, you would want to use our Seam Sealer glue.
Would this floor be appropriate to play basketball and volleyball on or will it become slippery?
Erin
You can use our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls as a basketball or volleyball court floor. These rolls are very slip resistant and are more slip resistant when wet. So no worries when it comes to sweat and spills. A ball would bounce on these rolls the same as it does on a hardwood flooring surface. Since these rolls are very slip resistant, you may run into issues where there may be not enough slippage when playing a sport. This is not a huge issue but could be an issue when one is trying to pivot when playing basketball.
What do you recommend using to cut the 8mm rolls? I'll need to notch around some equipment.
Jeffrey Jacobs
You can cut our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. Our 8mm rubber rolls are very easy to cut. It is similar to cutting butter with a warm knife.
How and what do you use to clean it?
Georgia
Cleaning our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls is very easy. First, you will want to sweep off any large dirt and debris. Next, you will want to mop the floor with a mild soap and water solution. We recommend using synthetic mop heads for this. Once the flooring has been mopped, all you need to do is just let the floor air dry. If you wanted to use a cleaning solution that was made to clean rubber, we do offer our Rubber Floor Cleaner and Degreaser as an alternative to using a mild soap like Dawn. If you would like printed instructions on how to properly clean our rubber flooring, please feel free to check out our maintenance instructions under the Maintenance tab.
Can this be used in a garage that is converted to an apartment? No cars.
Alina Nunez
You can install our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls in any room in your home or business. So it will be great as flooring in an apartment. These rubber rolls are very easy to clean and maintain and are just as easy to install.
I am considering installing in a laundromat. How will this hold up to detergent, fabric softener, or bleach spills?
John
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls have been installed in laundromats and can handle detergent, fabric softener, and bleach spills with ease. Since these rubber rolls are somewhat porous, the only thing you will notice is that with powder detergents that the powder can get stuck in the pores. It is tough to get the stuff out unless you hose down the floor. Even if this is done, there is potential for it to be still stuck in the floor. Other than that, these rolls are very easy to clean and maintain. For large dirt and debris, we recommend using a vacuum or a broom and for any stuck on dirt to use a mild soap and water solution with a synthetic mop head to clean the floor. These rubber rolls are also very slip-resistant and are more slip resistant even when wet, so they are one of the best flooring options for any laundromat.
Could this flooring be used while wearing soccer cleats (not metal studs)?
Rebecca

Can I paint the rolls?
You can paint our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls or any rubber flooring with acrylic paint.

Can I lay this down on my concrete garage floor without adhesives?
Jen
You can install our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls over a concrete garage floor without adhesives. These rolls are heavy enough to stay in place on their own. If for some reason they were to move, we would recommend placing some double-sided tape under the rolls or some glue.
Using for a home gym in the carport but would be laying it out with each workout, is this possible? Also, would I need anything to lay under the mat between the slick carport and the rubber mat, so it doesn't slip?
tim
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be rolled out and rolled up with ease if using them as a temporary flooring surface. These rolls are pretty heavy, so you won't need to put anything under the rolls to keep them in place. If for some reason the rolls were to move when performing certain lifting moves, we do recommend placing some double-sided tape under the rolls.
Is there a difference between 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls and the 8mm Strong Rubber Rolls?
DUSTIN DICKEY
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls come in pre-cut sizes, whereas our 8mm Strong Rubber Rolls can be cut to any whole foot length over a minimum roll length. Both rolls are made from the same material, just the pre-cut rolls are stocked and ship more quickly compared to the custom cut versions.
I am looking for flooring for video production space, 600sf. need resilience, noise deadening, and cannot have VOC or tire rubber smells. Is this a product that would fit that use.
Leland Orvis
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls are very resilient and will help to deaden any noise in a room, but these rubber rolls will have a tire smell to them. It is slight, but it is present. These rubber rolls could be used as flooring for video production and have successfully. If the rubber smell is a deal-breaker, we do offer a number of virgin rubber tiles that don't have a smell really at all that would work perfectly for this application. You can find these on our rubber tiles page, and you would just select the virgin rubber tile filter.
How much does each roll weigh?
The 4'x25' roll weighs ~ 250 lbs and the 4'x50' roll weighs ~ 400 lbs.
Are rolls glued down or will they stay on vinyl tile floor?
JIm
You don't have to glue down our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls to keep them in place. Depending on what exercises are being performed, you may need to add some double-sided tape or glue under the rolls. In most installations, this is not needed. The weight of the rubber rolls keeps them in place.
Can this be used as a sound absorbing underlayment for engineered hardwood flooring?
Ryan
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls do have some sound absorption qualities, but we would recommend using one of our rubber flooring underlayments to get the most acoustical value under your engineered hardwood flooring. You can find all of our rubber underlayment on our rubber underlayment page.
Can precut rolls be installed as a floating floor surface over interlocking waterproofing rubber tiles without being glued down?
Our8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls can be installed as a floating floor.
I am planning to install this outdoors on top of a concrete driveway. What is the best adhesive to use? Also, what is the best way to create a 'ramp' for the exposed end of the rubber (since it won't go wall-to-wall)?
trevor
If you want to install our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls or any other rubber product and want to glue it down, you will want to use a polyurethane adhesive. This will create a strong bond and is freeze and thaw stable. We do offer a ramp for our rubber flooring, and the ramp size that would work with this rubber roll can be found on our Rubber Floor Ramps page and in the on-page accessory section on this product. You would use the same glue to adhere the rubber to adhere the ramp.
Are these rolls vulcanized?
Our 8mm Pre Cut Rubber Rolls are not vulcanized.
Can I use this flooring for a dog kennel? How stain resistant is it and is it easy to clean?
These rubber rolls are very easy to clean and are mold and mildew resistant. These rubber rolls are also very slip-resistant when wet.
Can these rolls be used as a track covering?
Keith Bolus
Technically, yes, you could use our 8mm Pre-Cut Rubber Rolls as a track. Typically track installations involve a multi-layer rubber system that adds bounce while running. This helps to protect the joints while running or jogging. Our rubber rolls won't provide that bounce, but they are very good solutions over a concrete or gravel track. It is common to see our rubber rolls used for indoor tracks.

I am really pleased to send this review and picture! We are a non-profit animal shelter in Vermont and just completed the expansion of our shelter. Of course, price was extremely important to us as well as quality…this product fully met our needs and expectations on both! I spent a lot of time researching the product and found the pricing from Rubber Flooring the best on the market. If that was not enough, the employees were incredibly friendly and helpful. Lastly, when the product arrived, it truly was as easy to install as the staff had claimed it to be…I and one other person installed our area in about 3 hours! Overall, the product is perfect for our dog training room. Ordering was simple, installation was easy and it is exactly what we needed….Thank you Rubber Flooring for making this project so easy for us! Images sent in by happy customer

  Gym Flooring
Installed in Home Gym
Anonymous from Hartford, CT wrote...
Overall a really good product. The flooring is similar to what you would find in a commercial gym. We have some very heavy equipment sitting on top of it and the floor is holding up great. In our prior home we installed a thicker, softer tile flooring. It did not hold up well. I read concerns in other posts about the room smelling like rubber after doing the installation. The recommendation when I called rubber flooring was to hose off the flooring and leave it outside for a couple of days prior to the install. This worked great and we have no smell issues. We did have an issue with the rubber shrinking slightly after the flooring was laid down. I would recommend after leaving it outside, that you then bring it back indoors for another 24 hours and let it adjust to the room temperature prior to doing the cutting and installation. All in all I would buy it again and recommend this product to others.
