To keep your rooms clean and inviting, carpets should be vacuumed frequently. Spills should be removed immediately with an absorbent cotton cloth and clean water. Periodic maintenance can be performed as needed using a hot water extraction-cleaning machine.
Manufacturer recommendations:
FLUORESCENT DYED CARPET
The fluorescent dyes used in the carpet industry to produce fluorescent effect have properties different from ordinary carpet dyes, and precautions must be followed.
• Fluorescent dyes are less resistant to sunlight than ordinary carpet dyes. Fluorescent carpet should not be exposed to direct sunlight or the fluorescent properties will diminish. The darker the lighting, the longer the fluorescence under black light will last.
• Fluorescent dyes are adversely affected by alkaline cleaning agents. The pH level of the cleaning product used is critical. Cleaning products with pH levels above 8 will quickly degrade the fluorescent properties of the dyestuffs (the color will still appear normal under ordinary light, but it will no longer glow under UV light.) Detergents and spot cleaners designed for use with wool will not affect this carpet, as these products normally range from 4.5 to 6.5 on the pH scale. Do not use cleaning agents containing optical brighteners as these will also glow under black light.
• Absorb wet spills as quickly as possible by blotting with white absorbent towels. Use of a spotting extractor is strongly suggested to quickly remove contaminates and moisture.
Do not leave carpet saturated!
• Hot water extraction method is recommended for general cleaning. The water temperature should be 120 degrees or less at the face of the carpet. Air movers will dry the carpet quickly.
• Due to these unusual properties of the dyestuffs, no warranty can be extended covering the colorfastness of this carpet.

How is Space Explorer carpet sold?
It comes on a 12-foot-wide roll and is sold by the linear foot. The minimum cut is 5 linear feet. Every linear foot you order is 12 square feet of carpet. The pattern repeats every 36 inches in both directions. If your room needs more than one width, plan the seams and cut lengths so the pattern lines up.
Was this helpful?Can this carpet be installed in a room that gets sunlight?
Keep it out of direct sunlight. The fluorescent dyes that make this carpet glow are less sun-resistant than ordinary carpet dyes. Direct sun slowly fades the glow, even though the colors still look normal under regular light. The darker the room, the longer the fluorescence lasts. For that reason the manufacturer does not warrant colorfastness on this carpet, and fade resistance is covered for indoor use only.

Vacuum often, and blot spills right away with a white absorbent cloth and clean water. Do not leave the carpet saturated. For a deep clean, use hot water extraction at 120F or less at the carpet face. Cleaner strength matters. Anything above pH 8, meaning an alkaline cleaner, quickly destroys the fluorescent effect. Wool-safe detergents and spot cleaners in the pH 4.5 to 6.5 range will not harm it. Avoid cleaners with optical brighteners, which glow under black light themselves.

Two ways: stretch-in over a pad, or glued down. Stretch-in seams are matched to the pattern and joined with hot-melt seam tape. The carpet is then stretched with a power stretcher or knee kicker, in 3 to 5 foot sections. For glue-down, use the trowel size and coverage printed on the adhesive pail. Seal every seam edge with seam sealer, then roll the floor with a 75 lb roller. Keep heavy traffic and furniture off it for 24 hours. Fill any cracks or holes in the subfloor before you start.

We were renovating a theater room in our home after flooding and wanted to get carpeting that matched the Star Wars and video games theme of the room. Going to home improvement stores had nothing but the same beige, black, brown carpet selections one would expect. We found FlooringInc.com and this pattern and decided to take a chance as a first time customer. This carpet is awesome! I was worried that it was, perhaps, TOO thin but I couldn't have been more wrong. Coupled with the top of the line padding available here as well, it feels great and looks fantastic. We also put black lights in our ceiling and the room glows just like I remember arcades and movie theaters in the 1980's. Fast shipping, great price, AWESOME carpet, I can't say enough great things about our purchase.
