Installation Instructions

Outdoor Installation

1. Surface Preparation:

  • Remove Existing Materials: Clear the area of all grasses, sods, mulches, and debris. For areas around trees, shrubs, or other obstacles, mark these zones and ensure enough space around tree bases.
  • Adjust Sprinklers and Wiring: Cap unused sprinklers at the pipe level to prevent leaks. Relocate any electrical sprinklers and wiring inward by 6-8 inches from hardscapes to avoid damage during installation. Secure these items with U-shaped nails.

2. Base Construction:

  • Install Decomposed Granite (DG): Spread a 3-inch layer of decomposed granite, a mix of gravel and sand that facilitates drainage. Distribute and level the DG evenly, wetting it to aid compaction. Use a vibrating plate compactor or hand tamper to achieve a flat and stable base.
  • Turf Pad (if applicable): If using a turf pad, cut the base to match the size and depth of the pad.

3. Weed Cloth (Optional):

  • Lay Weed Cloth: Roll out weed cloth to prevent weeds from growing through the turf. Overlap edges by 6 inches and secure with flat-head nails, avoiding deep nail placement to prevent dimpling. Trim the cloth to fit the area, leaving a 1/4” gap along the border.

4. Turf Placement:

  • Position Turf: Align the turf with straight or perpendicular edges for accuracy. Temporarily secure the edges with nails to hold the turf in place while fitting the rest of the area. Overcut the turf by one inch along the edges for proper fitting.
  • Seaming: Use a seaming tool to join turf edges, cutting in an S-shape to avoid visible seams. Place nails every six inches along the edge, driving them down three-quarters of the way. Avoid deep nail placement to prevent dimpling. Use six-inch U-nails to secure seams, ensuring they are flush with the turf.

5. Final Touches:

  • Tucking: Use a wonder bar to tuck the turf edges against hardscapes or borders for a clean finish.
  • Infill Application: Spread infill or sand evenly across the turf. Brush with a power brush or stiff-bristled broom to lift the blades and incorporate the infill into the base. Remove excess debris to complete the installation.

Indoor Installation

1. Surface Preparation:

  • Clean and Level: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and level. Suitable surfaces include concrete, gypcrete, pressure-treated decking, wood, or backer board.

2. Dry Lay and Alignment:

  • Check Fit: Dry lay the turf to check alignment and minimize variations. Refer to the manufacturing details on the backing for fiber direction.

3. Adhesive Application:

  • Apply Adhesive: Apply adhesive or double-sided tape to the surface. Lay the turf over the adhesive, ensuring it adheres securely.

4. Seaming and Rolling:

  • Seam Sealer: Apply seam sealer to all seams.
  • Roll Turf: Use a 75 lb. weighted roller to press the turf into place.

5. Curing:

  • Allow Curing Time: Keep the installation area dry for 72 hours to ensure the adhesive cures properly.

Maintenance

1. Regular Cleaning:

  • Debris Removal: Regularly sweep or vacuum to keep the turf clean and free from debris.

2. Spot Cleaning:

  • Stains: Clean stains with mild soap and water; avoid using harsh chemicals.

3. Brushing:

  • Fiber Maintenance: Brush the turf with a stiff-bristled broom or power brush to keep the blades upright and maintain a natural appearance.

4. Infill Maintenance:

  • Reapply Infill: Check and replenish infill periodically to maintain proper cushioning and support.

5. General Care:

  • Pet Areas (if applicable): Rinse with water if needed and ensure proper drainage to prevent odors.
