I am wondering if these tiles will stick to vinyl flooring or does the vinyl need to be pulled up prior to laying these
As long as the vinyl is clean, the adhesive should stick to it.

Yes - tiles are great for that purpose because they can be individually replaced when soiled or worn vs. having to replace the entire floor.

We would recommend removing any large areas of loose paint before installing as the tiles will adhere to the paint surface and may peel up as the paint peels.

We recommend removing existing carpets before installing new carpet tiles. It can be possible to install carpet tiles over very low-pile existing carpet, but ideally carpet tiles should be installed on a smooth, clean, flat surface to ensure proper adhesion and no gaps between tiles.

Yes, you should be able to trim these to fit on stairs.

No, that would not work.

Yes, these tiles can be very easily removed, usually without leaving much (if any) residue behind. Any residue can be removed by rolling it up between the fingertips or with a tennis ball.

These tiles do have an adhesive back and would not be recommended to put directly onto wood flooring. You could create a floating subfloor to adhere the tiles to instead.
