What is the difference between the Standard, Premium, and Elite versions of TruePutt turf?
They differ in pile thickness, face weight, and yarn. Standard is 1/2 inch thick and Premium is 5/8 inch thick. Both use monofilament polyethylene yarn with a 55 face weight. Elite is 3/8 inch thick with a 45 face weight. It uses texturized nylon yarn with natural rubber, which is meant to feel more like a real green. All three come 15 feet wide, are UV stabilized, are perforated for drainage, and are made in the USA. They share the same 15-year warranty.
Was this helpful? Can I order TruePutt turf cut to my own length?
Yes. Every version comes on a 15-foot-wide roll, sold by the linear foot. Each linear foot gives you 15 square feet of turf. You can order from 1 linear foot up to 100 feet in one piece. Anything longer than 100 feet, or wider than 15 feet, needs a seam.
Was this helpful? What kind of base do I need to install a putting green outdoors?
Start by stripping out all grass, sod, and mulch. Cap or move any sprinklers you will not use. Lay a 3-inch-deep base of decomposed granite. Wet it so it settles, then tamp and roll it until it is completely flat. Cover the base with weed cloth, overlapping the edges by 6 inches. Square the turf to a straight edge and over-cut it about an inch for tucking. Nail the edges every 6 inches. Cut seams in an S-shape with a seaming tool and hold them with 6-inch U-nails. Over a turf pad, use turf seam tape instead.
Was this helpful? How fast do these putting greens roll?
TruePutt turf typically reads 9 to 11 on the Stimp scale, the standard measure of green speed. Like any green, real or artificial, the installation affects the final number. To speed it up, add more putting green infill and roll the surface with a water roller. To slow it down, open the fibers up with a power broom. Check the infill level now and then, and brush in more if it looks low.
Was this helpful? Can TruePutt turf be installed indoors?
Yes. Indoors it goes down as a glue-down floor over a level, clean, dry surface. Concrete, gypcrete, wood, pressure-treated decking, and backer board all work. Dry-lay the rolls first to sequence them and keep the fiber pointing the same way. Then set the turf in adhesive or double-sided tape. Seal every seam with seam sealer and roll it with a 75-pound roller in both directions. Keep the area dry for 72 hours so the adhesive can cure.
Was this helpful? How heavy is a roll of TruePutt turf?
Standard and Premium weigh about 6.8 to 6.9 pounds per linear foot. Elite is lighter, at about 4.5 pounds per linear foot. A 30-foot cut of Premium runs close to 200 pounds. Plan on help to unload a long cut and move it into place.
