Is Duette a good marley floor for ballet and pointe?
Yes. Duette is a matte, slip-resistant vinyl marley, the roll-out floor most studios dance on. It is made for soft-shoe work: ballet, pointe, modern, jazz and hip-hop. The surface balances grip and glide, and it does not need rosin. It is reversible, so one roll gives you two looks, Black/Gray or Black/White.

The rolls are 78.7 inches wide, about 6.5 feet, so each linear foot covers roughly 6.5 square feet. That width means fewer seams in a studio. Order a custom cut by the linear foot, from 1 foot up to 131.3 feet. A full roll covers about 861 square feet. Order the exact footage your space needs. Custom cuts include a small overage, usually under a foot, but it varies and is not a substitute for measuring.
Was this helpful?Do I have to glue Duette down?
No. Duette can go down as a temporary, semi-permanent or permanent floor. Prepare the subfloor first. Remove or cover screw heads and nails, then fill and sand cracks, because hard bumps can cut the floor and injure dancers. Unroll the pieces and let them lie flat overnight. Butt the next piece up to the last, leaving a 1/8-inch gap for expansion. Tape every seam and the perimeter with dance floor tape. Double-sided tape under the edges also works, in 3-foot sections with two people. For a permanent studio floor, use a latex dance floor adhesive.
Was this helpful? Will Duette ripple or curl?
No. A woven glass-fiber layer inside the floor resists expansion, shrinkage and rippling. It lies flat quickly and stays flat through temperature swings, from a warm studio to a cold truck. That is why it is used for studio, stage and touring work. In winter, let a new roll warm to room temperature before you unroll it.
Was this helpful? How do I clean a Duette marley floor?
Sweep with a soft push broom, then damp mop. Corn and stiff-bristle brooms scratch the surface. Use Rosco All Purpose Dance Floor Cleaner in warm water, not hot: 1 ounce per gallon for light cleaning, 2 to 4 ounces for heavier dirt. Never use a cleaner with ammonia in it, because it leaves a slippery residue. Sweep and mop at least three times a week in a studio, and daily on tour. Scuff marks are normal on vinyl marley and do not affect how it dances.
