What is the advantage of a 5-foot-wide roll over a standard 4-foot roll?
Each linear foot covers 5 square feet instead of 4. A room needs fewer rolls and fewer seams. Fewer seams mean less cutting, less waste and fewer edges to collect dirt. The extra width also helps in rooms where 4-foot rolls leave an awkward strip along one wall.
Was this helpful? What sizes do NextGen XL rolls come in?
NextGen XL comes in 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" thicknesses, all 5 feet wide and custom cut by the linear foot. The minimum cut is 15 linear feet (75 square feet). A single roll can be up to 120 feet for 1/4" and 100 feet for 3/8" and 1/2"; a longer run is supplied as more than one roll.
Was this helpful? How heavy are these rolls?
Per linear foot of 5-foot-wide roll, 1/4" weighs about 8 pounds, 3/8" about 11 pounds, and 1/2" about 15 pounds. That is roughly 1.6, 2.2 and 3 pounds per square foot. A 15-foot minimum cut of 1/2" comes to about 225 pounds. These rolls are wider than standard and awkward to carry, so plan on two people.
Was this helpful?Do NextGen XL rolls need to be glued down?
No. They can float, sit on double-sided tape, or be glued down. For tape, run it on the subfloor along the perimeter of each roll. For a permanent floor, spread polyurethane adhesive in 10-foot sections and unroll into it. Then go over the floor with a 100-pound roller. Let the rolls relax 24 to 48 hours before you cut. Check that the fleck runs the same way on every roll. Flip or turn a roll 180 degrees if it does not. Leave a perimeter gap about as wide as the roll is thick.
Was this helpful? Will the color match if I add a roll to my order later?
Not reliably. Color varies slightly between production runs. Order every roll for a project at once. The rolls are cut to order and ship in 10 to 15 business days, so allow for that when you set an install date.
Was this helpful?Does NextGen XL contribute to LEED points?
Yes. It is designed to contribute up to 5 LEED points across two categories. The Specifications sheet lists the categories and the values you need for a submission. The rolls are made in the USA from recycled rubber buffings with virgin EPDM color fleck. That recycled content is what earns the credit.
