Accessories for 5mm Pre-Cut Rubber Underlayment

Description - Our 5mm pre-cut rubber underlayment offers superior sound insulation at the best price. 5mm rubber underlayment has been shown to outperform all leading forms of underlayment including 12mm cork and 12mm foam. Rubber is great to use in areas that are at and above grade and is a great underlayment in areas where water may be present. This flooring underlayment is also mold and mildew resistant which is due to the fact that rubber does not hold water. This sound proofing underlayment can also be installed directly over concrete or wood and does not have to be adhered to the system via adhesive. You can also float the underlayment in a free floating assembly.
Material - Comprised of 100% recycled material.
Width - 4 feet wide per roll.
Length - Our pre-cut rubber underlayment comes in 25’ lengths.
Thickness - 5mm (Approx. 3/16”).
Weight - 0.83lbs./sqft.

But it has also been successfully used under luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and plank, ceramic tile, laminate, engineered wood, real wood, marble, brick, pavers, parquet, carpet and tiles. It is not recommended for VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile), vinyl, and linoleum.

Features

Rubber Underlayment

  • Why rubber underlayment?

Rubber underlayment offers superior sound resistance, is versatile and resilient. Comprised of recycled materials, this environmentally friendly product provides cushion underfoot as well as reducing sound transmission and impact sound such as footsteps. Amazingly, a 2mm thick rubber underlayment has similar testing numbers in sound resistance as compared to a 6mm thick cork underlayment.

Do I REALLY need underlay?

  • Yes, most definitely.

Underlayment is an amazing invention created by the flooring gods out of necessity. Underlay has an impressive list of benefits, including: adding warmth to your floors so your feet aren’t so cold on new tile flooring, adding comfort and a slight ‘give’ underneath wood or vinyl floors, reduced sound transmission (great for houses with noisy teenagers!), as well as reducing in room step noise. The image to the left is a very simplified example of using underlayment versus not using it, but as you can see the benefits greatly outweigh any reason not to.

Making your house a home

  • Products that work together

A favorite for use with hard plastic garage tiles, hardwood flooring and stone floor tiles. Rubber underlayment should never be used with vinyl flooring, VCT, or linoleum flooring as it could potentially stain these materials.

Thickness

  • What does it mean?

Underlayment with a thickness of up to 5mm thick are great when it comes to residential or commercial use, with all flooring types. When you get to more than 5mm thick, these are really great for installations where you need to add thickness to match up with an adjoining/existing floor surface.

IIC / STC Ratings

  • What do they mean?

IIC stands for Impact Insulation Class, which refers to impact sounds such as shoes hitting the ground, dropping a cell phone, or other scenarios where something it dropped or impacts the floor. STC stands for Sound Transmission Class, which refers to any audible noise (not an impact) such as music playing aloud, a conversation, or a loud television, for example. With both of these ratings systems, the higher the number rating is for the underlayment, the better it will suppress sound, and the quieter a room will be. You may want to pay close attention to these ratings when shopping for underlayment if sound reduction is important to you.

Used in Multiplex for Sound Reduction
Self-installed in Bathroom, Kitchen, Living Room, Hallway, Bedroom
from Sarnia, ON wrote...
I just completed installation of this product under LVT and 12mL laminate with marked results. This was installed on the second floor of my multiplex and the tenants below recorded that all footfall noise was eliminated to the point that only hammering was heard. The floor is not insulated and did not have a dropped ceiling below so I am very happy with the result. I paired this product with acoustical caulking for best results. 5mm rubber cut very easy with a sharp box-cutter knife. Recommeded after extensive research and was happy with delivery time and the packaged product arrived with ample packaging for protection. Only thing is this stuff is HEAVY but great for adding density to your floor. Will purchase again for myself and friends. Matt
  Great product
Installed in two bedroom apartment
from Bowling Green KY wrote...
We used the subflooring on a floor in an apartment over a pub. Though sound still penetrates when it is very loud downstairs, it does a great job muffling the sound. During more quiet hours you don't hear a thing and when it gets loud down there, is just sounds like a neighbor playing their tv a bit loud. Definitely recommend it. Used high quality plank vinyl flooring over it and it holds up great.
  Great product and price
Self-installed in Second floor
from Friendswood, TX wrote...
Using the product as an underlayment for bamboo flooring on second floor. It's wonderful! I can hardly hear any sort of running, etc. upstairs. My son was jump roping and I didn't even realize it bc the sound was so muffled! My husband knew what my son was doing and pointed it out to me. The installation process was very easy. The most difficult part was moving the bundle around bc of the weight. That small inconvenience is worth the end product- virtually no sound from upstairs traffic. Great product and price. Price of material helps to offset the high price of shipping.

Great product. Our bedroom is downstairs below the kitchen and living room where I installed the new flooring. This underlayment helped quiet the floor traffic significantly. Easy to use and very heavy duty. Thank you, Bryan in Winchester, Virginia.
