Description - Pre-Cut 2mm rubber underlayment is the standard and most cost-efficient thickness used for underlayment in the industry. This flooring underlayment offers superior sound dampening, while still being very affordable. The soundproofing properties of our standard rubber underlayment is equivalent to 6mm thick cork underlayment. One advantage to using rubber over cork or foam is the fact that you don’t have to use adhesive to hold down the floor and you can also free float the underlayment in a floating floor assembly. You also wouldn’t need to use a vapor barrier with the underlayment unless there are water issues, but for most manufacturers’ warranties, a vapor barrier is required. Also, our rubber flooring underlayment can be installed at or above grade. So if you are looking for a versatile underlayment that will hold up to the elements while protecting your floor, this underlayment is the one for you.
Material - Our Pre-Cut 2mm Rubber Underlayment is comprised of more than 80% recycled SBR rubber.
Size - 4' x 50'
Thickness - 2mm (~.0787”).
Weight - 0.52lbs./sqft.
Recommended Uses - Our 2mm rubber underlayment is designed to be used in both commercial and residential applications. Our underlayment is a favorite to use under hard surfaces such as natural stone and hard woods, but it has also been successfully used under laminate, engineered wood, real wood, marble, pavers, brick, carpet and tiles. It is NOT recommended for VCT (Vinyl Composite Tile), vinyl, and linoleum.

Rubber Underlayment

  • Why rubber underlayment?

Rubber underlayment offers superior sound resistance, is versatile and resilient. Comprised of recycled materials, this environmentally friendly product provides cushion underfoot as well as reducing sound transmission and impact sound such as footsteps. Amazingly, a 2mm thick rubber underlayment has similar testing numbers in sound resistance as compared to a 6mm thick cork underlayment.

Do I REALLY need underlay?

  • Yes, most definitely.

Underlayment is an amazing invention created by the flooring gods out of necessity. Underlay has an impressive list of benefits, including: adding warmth to your floors so your feet aren’t so cold on new tile flooring, adding comfort and a slight ‘give’ underneath wood or vinyl floors, reduced sound transmission (great for houses with noisy teenagers!), as well as reducing in room step noise. The image to the left is a very simplified example of using underlayment versus not using it, but as you can see the benefits greatly outweigh any reason not to.

Making your house a home

  • Products that work together

A favorite for use with hard plastic garage tiles, hardwood flooring and stone floor tiles. Rubber underlayment should never be used with vinyl flooring, VCT, or linoleum flooring as it could potentially stain these materials.

Thickness

  • What does it mean?

Underlayment with a thickness of up to 5mm thick are great when it comes to residential or commercial use, with all flooring types. When you get to more than 5mm thick, these are really great for installations where you need to add thickness to match up with an adjoining/existing floor surface.

IIC / STC Ratings

  • What do they mean?

IIC stands for Impact Insulation Class, which refers to impact sounds such as shoes hitting the ground, dropping a cell phone, or other scenarios where something it dropped or impacts the floor. STC stands for Sound Transmission Class, which refers to any audible noise (not an impact) such as music playing aloud, a conversation, or a loud television, for example. With both of these ratings systems, the higher the number rating is for the underlayment, the better it will suppress sound, and the quieter a room will be. You may want to pay close attention to these ratings when shopping for underlayment if sound reduction is important to you.

Does this rubber underlayment require a moisture retarder when installed over concrete floors and under floating engineered hardwoods? The concrete subfloor is on the 2nd level of a condo building.
Anonymous
It is recommended to include a moisture barrier when installing over concrete.
I am installing carpet tiles on a concrete floor which is in a room off of my garage. Should I use rubber underlayment to help with keeping the floor warmer and if so, is 2 mm thick enough?
Pam Palanza
A 2mm rubber underlayment would definitely help to keep the floor warm.
what about smell on rubber underlayment? Degradation? Harmful chemicals? tk
pat
The rubber underlayment will have a slight rubber smell due to it's natural composition. No harmful chemicals or worry of degradation.
can this product be used for setting tile on top
Frank
You can most definitely use a rubber underlayment with the installation of ceramic or porcelain tile flooring.
Can I use this rubber underlayment with vinyl tile?
Jolynn
Rubber is not a suggested underlayment for vinyl tiles. We recommend either a cork or foam underlayment.
Is it suitable for installation under vinyl click-lock? Can it be installed on top of electric floor heating mat?
We typically recommend a cork of foam underlayment for use with vinyl floors. The Rubber underlay can be installed over floor heating.
Can this be used outside under artificial turf?
Erin
Yes, you can.
I want to use flooring for teaching exercise/dance classes on rough pavement. Will the 2mm rubber hold up to jumping, turns, and running on an extremely rough surface? 5/6mm?
This would be a fine underlayment option for this use. We'd recommend putting down a dance roll product over top of the underlayment, as it would not be suitable to dance directly on top of the rubber underlay.
would this work well for installing under a hard-plastic type of garage floor tile? I want to deaden the sound of the tile while walking on it.
Steve
2mm Rubber Underlayment is great for use underneath garage tiles for making the tiles quieter.
I am considering using the 2mm rubber underlayment over a radiant heat flooring system and under laminate flooring. I need a low r value to help conduct the heat into my floor. What is the R-value of the 2mm rubber flooring?
Kirk
The R-Value for our 2mm Pre-Cut Rubber Underlayment and our rubber flooring is typically around 1.100.
If I have hardwood floors, is it OK to use the rubber underlayment then roll out marley flooring on top for dancing?
You can use marley on top of rubber underlayment with no problem. We'd recommend using a protective layer between the underlayment and your wood floors to protect against damaging your wood floors.
Would this be suitable to use on a compacted gravel foundation for modular sports court tiles?
Brandon
You can use our 2mm Pre-Cut Rubber Underlayment over compacted gravel under our Sports Tiles.
I just purchased a couple of boxes of adhesive Carpet Tiles from you. Now I am thinking of an underlayment. Will these Carpet tile stick to this underlayment?
Jim
Our peel and stick carpet tiles can be adhered to a rubber underlayment.
I am looking at the Rosco dance flooring; we have wood laminate flooring, which would be a good underlay to put on before we put down the Rosco flooring. We are not removing the wooden floor.
Kathy
We recommend checking out our dance subfloors on our dance flooring page; there, you can find the proper underlayment for your new dance floor, dependent on what types of dance you will be performing on the floor.

  Garage and patio underlay
Self-installed in Garage and patio

I love the product. I used the 2mm underlayment in my garage and on my patio under plastic tiles. It's very easy to install, in the 4' x 25' roles. In the future I am going to use a thicker version of this product for carpet padding. It's hypoallergenic, mold-resistant and will help tremendously in eliminating noise of kids stopping on the floor in the upstairs bedrooms. I would highly recommend this product.

Love it, it is what I expected
Self-installed in In house gym and storage area floor

Installation was simple, I was going to individually checkerboard but went to 4 sq checkerboard pattern. Did not want to spend the effort breaking the 4's down to individuals. I would not have installed them if there was no underlayment option. Would recommend / by again Thanks
