Rugged Grip-Loc tiles are easy to maintain. Cleaning of these flooring tiles typically includes:

Vacuuming any loose dust, dirt, or debris from the tiles.
Simply hose down the floor and let the self-draining design allow for the dirt and debris to be swept away.

Installation Info Installation Info

Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles are easy to install. Installation of these floor tiles typically includes:

Clean your subfloor so that it is free of all dirt, dust, grease, or other foreign material.
When installing the Grip-Loc tiles, we recommend starting in the front left corner of the room and working your way out from there.
Make sure the female side (loops) of the tile is facing away from the wall.
After filling the left wall with tiles and the adjacent wall, proceed to fill the rest of the room with whole tiles.
When you come up to a wall or object, don’t worry. Just measure the area and cut the tiles with a tile cutter or a power saw with a fine-toothed blade and put the trimmed tiles into place.
When trimming the tiles into place, make sure you leave about a 3/4” space between the tiles and the wall or obstruction.
Once the tiles are in place, you can then snap in the edge pieces, if you purchased them.

I have an outdoor utility area (air conditioning units, pool equipment, garbage cans, etc.) that has a rigid border. It is currently dirt. I am considering adding crushed stone for drainage. I would like to cover the stone or dirt with your Grip Lock tile product. Do you recommend the tile over the stone or the dirt? Also, what is the difference between Rugged Grip Lock and Vented Grip Lock, other than the thickness of the tile?

We recommend placing our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles over a flat surface such as concrete or asphalt, but these tiles can be placed over crushed stone or dirt as long as the surface is flat. When placed over these surfaces, during heavy rain events, the floor may become unstable, but during normal conditions, the tiles will perform as designed. The difference between the Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles and Vented Grip-Loc tiles are the colors and the surface venting pattern.

I'm interested in installing these over a treated lumber deck. How easy is it to pick the tiles up to seal the deck occasionally?

Our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles are very easy to install and uninstall. These tiles are interlocking, so when you need to remove them, all you would have to do is start on one side and pull them up and separate as need be.

I want to put artificial turf in my balcony which is on second floor and concrete. Can I use this tile under the turf to get the proper drainage. I am really concerned that if I directly put the turf on concrete, it might clog some water during the rain. I am thinking of putting a layer of drainage tile on the concrete and then put a layer of turf on top of it. Please suggest if this can work?

Hello, I have a flat concrete roof (terrace) of about 5000 sf. If I stall silicon for the waterproofing, can I install these rubber tiles on top of the silicon application to be able to walk on? if so then do I need to cover silicon with any material in order to protect from the tile's texture in contact? Also we live in Florida with harsh direct sun and salt air. Would it sustain this weather? Thank you in advance for the response.

We wouldn't recommend using these tiles over silicone since they may eventually cut through the silicone as they're made of hard plastic. Please see our Soft Flex Tiles.

Exactly how flexible are these tiles? Will they "bend" at all? Or bend similar to a rubber tile?

Our Rugged Grip-Loc Tile are a rigid hard plastic tile. They do flex a little bit, but not like a rubber tile.

How do you prevent the floor moving? I want to use these tiles in snow plow trucks, and I do not want to drill holes.

To prevent movement of our Rugged Grip-Loc tiles, you will want to place them side to side in the snow plow. When fully installed, the weight of the floor will help to keep the tiles in place. If there is still movement after installed, you could use a pressure sensitive adhesive to keep them in place.

Can these be glued to concrete? I would like to cover my steps and glue small strip on side to finish it off.

We do not recommend using our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles over a TPO roof. These tiles are a hard plastic and would create holes in the roof. We recommend going with one our softer plastic Grip-Loc Tiles. Those would be our Smooth Grip-Loc, Raised Grip-Loc and Designer Grip-Loc Tiles.

I would like to install these in the backyard, over lawn, so that we can bounce a basketball on it. Would a basketball bounce?

A basketball would bounce on our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles, however, we do recommend installing these over a hard surface to get a better bounce. These tiles are made with the same material all court tiles are.

We want to use these outside our RV instead of a deck or rug. We thought if we leveled the area with sand before we put them down they would work. We would be placing chairs and a table on them and they would of course get walked on continually. The area now is hard packed ground.

Female edging has loops on it and male edging has no loops. You can use either for your installation and would use both if placing edging all around. The female edges would correspond to the side with no loop and vice versa for the male edges.

We have an outdoor walkway which is exposed to weather. The base is wood. The top is outdoor carpet. I want to replace the carpet with something weather resistant that is nice to walk on. The walkway is 3" wide. Does your product work in that situation? How would I keep it from shifting?

Our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles would be a great alternative to your outdoor carpet. These tiles are weather resistant and are slip resistant when wet. Water will not pool on top of the tiles but will flow through and under them. You wouldn't need to do anything to the tiles to keep them from slipping. The weight of the tiles interlocked together will keep them in place.

I am putting a gym on our patio---it is uncovered and part of the building's utility roof which has been converted into private patios. It is likely asphalt. The patios are not entirely closed, leaving room for drainage. Would this be appropriate for both a gym floor (rack, bench, crossfit) and avoid water/debris buildup under the tiles?

We do not recommend installing our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles over an EPDM rubber roof. The reason being is that the bottom of the tiles has little pegs that may puncture the roof. There would be no chemical reaction between the two surfaces.

These tiles are also able to withstand a lot of weight. They are made from the same material as our standard garage tiles, so the weight of a swing set wouldn't be an issue.

Can you use these tiles to cover a worn wooden deck? The tiles would be under a roofed construction (gazebos) that might get some water.

Is the color of the "gray" edge piece the same as the "graphite" tile?

You can stack out Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles on top of each other, but we would recommend placing a piece of plywood between the two floors to keep the stability of the floor intact. The tiles are made from durable polypropylene plastic and will not crack under the weight of traffic on the floor whether it is from feet or a wheelchair. These tiles are very easy to install as they are interlocking and can get removed and replaced if damaged. These tiles are also very slip resistant and are resistant to mold and mildew growth.

I have been watching videos on how to install your product! I noticed on one of them that they placed what looks like an underlayment on the garage floor first then added the tile. Is that something you sell or would recommend doing? I live in the northeast! Thanks!

You can add an underlay under our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles. The underlayment we sell and recommend is a rubber underlayment, and it is called our ShockPad. You can find this on our underlayment page or on the middle accessories page on this product.

How would these tiles do on a concrete pad for an outdoor baseball batting cage? Would there be a concern with baseball cleats? Also, this area floods from time to time. Should we glue down the tiles and how would they hold up to the occasional flooding?

The use of cleats on them would not damage our Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles. You may see some surface scratches, but the cleats themselves will not damage the tiles themselves. You don't need to glue the tiles down, as they are vented and will allow the water to flow through and under the floor. If the water overcomes the whole area, the tiles won't really move as the water will still be able to move freely through the flooring.

Can this tile be installed outside over duradeck and not damage the membrane? If not what do you recommend for an uncovered deck location?

We have these ties on our sport court. They are great and have lasted for years but have faded, become chalky in color. Is there a conditioner that can restore the color or do we have to replace all the tiles?

The installation tools that we have provided are just our recommendations, it is totally up to you to get them or not. Otherwise, simply laying the tiles on the deck and interlocking them would be good enough.

I live near Orlando, FL and I would like to place these tiles over ugly ceramic tile on an open patio. Although we aren't near the coast, we do get occasional strong winds from storms in the area. The weight of the interlocked tiles will prevent them from moving, but it may be a good idea to adhere the tiles on the sides to the subfloor with a heavy-duty double-sided tape just to be safe.

If I put these over a treated wood deck, do I still have to seal the deck periodically?

Sealing the deck periodically isn't required, but recommended to be sure that your wood deck doesn't get damaged with the water seeping on to the wood deck through the Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles.

My garage currently has linoleum glued to concrete, which results in a great slip hazard when wet, particularly with winter snow. Can the tiles stand up to weight if a car? The installation seems to allow them to float over substrate. Will they remain in place when car moves? Is there a better suited product that you offer?

Do you have an edging for the Rugged Grip-Loc Tiles, when they have been cut down for sizing?

We do carry edging for these tiles but they may not fit the tiles once cut if the tiles lose the loops that are needed to attach the tiles to the edges.

I'm looking at installing these tiles in an outdoor court setting for raquetball. I recieved a sample and they look great for that application--I'm wondering if you all would be able to suggest an outdoor-appropriate rubber underlayment that would create some extra cushion under these and not get mold/mildew/etc. outside. I am in the Southwest, so we dont get a TON of moisture to begin with....

I am considering this for a 5x12 balcony over a busy street. Both ends and the middle would be weighted with furniture. Is there any possibility of the tiles unlocking and flying into the street during high winds?

The possibility is extremely low since once interlocked, the weight of these tiles will keep them in place. If in doubt, you may use double-sided tape along the perimeter of the tiles to adhere them to the subfloor for extra safety.

I'm looking for flooring in an occasionally wet basement concrete floor. I am an artist and would be spending time standing on this material. Does it provide any cushioning? I'm sure it would be more comfortable than concrete in the winter. Please advise. Thanks.

These tiles are made of hard plastic and would work great on the concrete floor, but maybe hard on feet. You may use our Shock Pad underneath these tiles for an extra cushion.

The people who built our house continued ceramic tile outside, and it gets extremely slippery in the rain. Could the rubber tiles be installed on top? The surface is completely flat. Is it difficult to clean? We have chickens, dogs and a cat that use the patio.

Yes, these tiles can be installed on top of the ceramic tiles, as long as you don't have wide grout lines and the surface is flat. To clean, you may simply hose down these tiles with water. However, since these tiles have openings on the top, some matter may seep through the openings onto the tiles underneath. In this case, these tiles can be easily picked up and the floor underneath can be cleaned if needed.

Are the tiles flexible? I would like them to lay on a fiberglass rooftop and have concerns about the fiberglass being scratched by the tiles underneath.

Can these be use on a roof ?

Yes, as long as it's a concrete/hard surface roof and not rubber.

We received samples of the rugged grip lock tile and an edge. When they are connected and placed on a flat surface, the tile and edge are not the same height; the tile sits higher than the edge. Anyone have this issue of the edging not being flush with the tile once they are installed?

If I was to place the tiles on a front concrete porch with just a small stoop over it, would I need to glue them down? Would they blow away if there was or wasn't any trim around the edge or glued down?

Using an adhesive is optional. You may simply install these tiles without the glue, and the weight of the tiles will help them stay in place. However, if you see them move too much, using a pressure-sensitive adhesive will help them stay in place.

I have a 450 sq foot rooftop and am looking to install artificial turf. I have ordered the Airdrain turf drainage tiles from your company but would these be better underneath the artificial turf instead?

I live in one of the boroughs of NYC. Our property is 80 x 100 so the back yard is not too large. We have a nice size shed and a 12' above ground pool, grill and nice outdoor furniture. The concrete was cracked and would be such a pain to replace. My husband had filled the cracks with a silicone and needless to say, it did not go with my decor.... ha ha... I would purchase a large outdoor carpet every summer to try and hide the cracks and finally decided to purchase these tiles. My husband was very concerned on how they would hold up with the winters in NY or the summers for that matter. I have to say this has been the BEST purchase ever. When it snows, we have to shovel the back and three is no issue at all as a matter of fact, it is so easy to shovel. I just said the other day,, all the sidewalks in NY should have these it makes it so easy to shovel. The freezing cold winters to not crack the tiles at all. We had a basketball hoop in the back and my son would play ball on it,, bouncing the ball like crazy on them, jumping up and down to the hoop and they have stood up beautifully. We have the tiles in the yard for at least 4 or 5 years now and they are as good as when we first bought them. We scrub them down a little when the warm weather comes and give a little shot with a power washer (on light). and they look brand new. If you are hesitant to purchase these, dont be, not matter what weather they hold up beautifully.

Now that I have laid these tiles (forest green) it is a great pleasure to be out on the balcony! In less than an hour! We can now walk barefooted on our balcony, without discomfort. We eat our dinners out there in good weather. It feels like an extension of the apartment. Whenever we decide to relocate, I can unsnap this flooring and relocate it with us! I don't usually write reviews. but I just want to share with others the pleasure we have derived from this home improvement!
