PlaySafe interlocking playground tiles are virtually maintenance free. No daily maintenance is required normally however if you do feel the need to clean the surface of the playground flooring, normal recommended cleaning instructions include:
  • Sweeping or blowing off the rubber tiles to remove any loose crumbs, dirt, dust, sticks, leaves, or other debris from the surface when necessary.
  • If something wet or sticky is spilled on the surface such as drinks, ice cream, etc, it is best to clean up the area with a water hose or else a damp cloth.
  • Occasional damp mopping of the playground tiles with a mild soap and water solution and disinfecting of the tiles with a bleach and water or alcohol and water solution can be useful to help prevent the transmission of colds if kids are sick. A few recommended soaps are Dawn dish detergent or Tide laundry detergent.
Note: Do not use any solvent or oil style cleaners such as Pinesol, Lysol, Murphy’s Oil Soap, WD40, paint thinner, etc. since these types of cleaners will break down the rubber playground surface over time.

Can these tiles be installed on exposed dirt or gravel?
Dave
Our Playsafe Interlocking Playground Tiles can be installed over flat, packed dirt or gravel.
Is adhesive necessary to install these tiles? They say interlocking but the instructions for installation seem to include adhesive steps.
Michael Wachell
We recommend using adhesive under the interlocking tiles since it helps to keep the tiles from being stolen and keeps the tiles from buckling. However, using an adhesive is optional, you may skip using the adhesive and go for a glue-free installation by simply interlocking the tiles.
Does this and other outdoor playset material come with a warranty? If so, how long is it and what does it cover?
Jay
A 10-year warranty backs our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles. This warranty covers any manufacturing defects.
Can rubber playground tiles be trimmed?
Anonymous
Our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles can be trimmed with a large bread knife or with a band saw. The easiest way to cut these tiles is with a band saw.
Can this be used in a location that a wheel chair will be used.
Patrick
You can use a wheelchair on our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles. We also have ADA ramps for these tiles that are wheelchair accessible as well.
Does the color fade with time?
The color will fade on our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles. The reason these colors will fade is that they are painted. We do offer fade-resistant colors of our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles in our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles - Designer Series.
Are the tiles solid enough to bounce and dribble basketballs?
Paul Whiteman
Basketballs will bounce on our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles but it won't be the same bounce that you'd get on an indoor basketball court. If you're looking for tiles that would work best for basketballs, please see our Outdoor Sports Tiles here https://www.rubberflooringinc.com/interlocking-tile/outdoor-sports-tiles.html
Are these tiles porous enough to allow rain to pass through them?
Trish
Our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles are not porous and will not allow water to flow through them.
Can these tiles be used around a salt water pool slide?
Anonymous
Our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles can be used around a salt water pool slide. These tiles are made from rubber which is naturally slip-resistant and when wet becomes more slip resistant. These rubber tiles are also resistant to mold and mildew and are very easy to clean and maintain.
Can these be used indoors? I'm building a gym and want to protect my floor and muffle the sound when I drop weights (250+lbs).
Tony Moore
You can use our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles indoors. Even though these tiles are very shock absorbent, they are not the best flooring option for a gym. To help mitigate sound and also stand up against dropping weights, we recommend using our 1-1/4" Fit Rubber Tiles, which are interlocking, or our 1" Monster Tiles.
Does the edge trim have locking groves? What adhesive can be used on this material?
Clifford
The Ramps for our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles do have an interlock on them. You would install the ramps the same as you would the tiles. You would use our Seam Sealer glue along the groove to ensure a tight, strong bond.
Will it support a vehicle?
Frankie
Our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles are durable enough to support the weight of a vehicle.
What is the actual size of the tiles?
Joe Frendo
Our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles are 2' x 2' tiles.
When not in use as playground, can we use the flooring for occasional car parking . Can this flooring handle the weight of a car? Also do the tiles misalign upon turning the wheels ?
Rohan
You can drive a car on our Jamboree Playground Tiles. These tiles are durable enough to handle the weight of a car. The only thing you will want to be mindful of is if your car drips oil. Oil over time can cause the tiles to breakdown. When driving on these tiles, you don't have to realign when turning your wheels.
If installing playground equipment that must be installed in the ground with concrete footers, would we just use the bread knife and cut around the posts? Do you have any literature that shows how this is done?
In the install tab on the product page, you will find a printable copy of the installation instructions for our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles.
Can they be painted when they fade?
Yes, our PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles can be painted with acrylic-based paint.
If the tiles are installed over flat packed dirt vs gravel, does that have an impact on water drainage?
Christin Washington
PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles are not porous so water will flow off the top towards the drain. The base should have a 1-2% slope.
How do the tiles stand up to pet urine? Are they porous and the urine flows through? What do you suggest for using the product in a pet-friendly yard?
Jace
These are not porous, and water will stay on top of the tiles, leading to a drain. Please see our outdoor sports tiles, since those are porous and will allow water to pass through them easily.
How do the tiles hold up to extreme heat/ sunshine?
PlaySafe Interlocking Playground Tiles are an outdoor playground tile and will withstand heat and sunlight all year around.
I noticed in 2 separate customers it was asked if these tiles are porous. In 1 answer you state they are porous, but it another answer you state the tiles are NOT porous. Can you please provide the proper answer?
TC
These are not porous, and water will stay on top of the tiles, leading to a drain.
can i get a sample of the playsafe interlocking playground tile?
Greg McEachern
Unfortunately, we do not provide samples for this product.
Can you describe what materials are used to make the tiles and how it compares to health considerations/toxic elements?
Lisa
These tiles are made of Certified Clean Rubber and are IPEMA certified, safe to use for playgrounds.
Would these tiles be considered 'semi permeable'? If not, do you have outdoor tiles for a play area that are?
Kim
These tiles are not permeable. Our Jamboree Playground Tiles would be a good option that would allow water to pass through.

Great product that was easy to install. I found an oscillating tool worked best to make cuts for fitting around the existing playground equipment.
