Turf rolls are very easy to clean and maintain. Maintenance includes the following:
  • Periodic sweeping of loose dirt, dust, and debris may be necessary to keep the flooring surface clean.
  • For stains and blemishes, clean the rolls with a warm water solution of household detergent and water. Never use bleach.
  • For animal urine, use a mixture of white distilled vinegar in an equal amount of water. Make sure to flush thoroughly and vacuum any excess solution.
  • For chewing gum, the use of dry ice or refrigerant packets may be necessary to remove gum from flooring surface.
  • If your turf becomes matted, brushing of the surface may be needed to restore the aesthetic appearance. Always use a synthetic brush and never a metal or wire bristled brush when performing this task.

Installation of our Turf rolled flooring is very easy and typically done by our customer's. Below are instructions for both outdoor and indoor installation of our rolled flooring.

Synthetic Lawn Outdoor Installation
  • First you will want to remove all grasses, sods, mulches, etc. from the marked areas. Note: If you are landscaping around trees shrubbery, flowers, light poles, utilities, etc., remember to mark around those areas and account for the turf edge configuration. Remember to leave ample area uncovered around the bases of trees.
  • Next cap any sprinklers that will not be used. Cap the sprinklers at the pipe level to avoid any leakage that might occur. Relocate sprinklers if necessary. Make sure to mark the location of the un-used sprinklers. Move electrical sprinklers and wiring inward and away from any hardscape or perimeter from six-to-eight inches to avoid accidental damage when nailing turf edges. Once the wiring and other materials are moved, lay the items on top of the subgrade surfacing and secure them with U-shaped nails.
  • Install the base with a decomposed granite which is a special mixture of gravel and sand. This material allows the liquids from the turf to properly drain. For non-pet landscape installations, install DG three inches in depth. Properly distribute and level the base material.
  • Wet the existing base to allow the material to settle properly. Compact the base by vibrating, tamping and rolling the gravel until you have a completely flat surface. Once this solid base is established, the turf can be easily nailed to the base.
  • If using a turf pad, you will want to cut a hole in the base the size and depth of the pad that is being used.
  • Roll out weed cloth if applicable. This fabric prevents any additional plants and weeds from growing through the base of the synthetic grass. Overlap the weed cloth edges by six inches and secure it with as many flat-head nails as necessary. This helps to prevent movement of the cloth. Trim the cloth to fit the landscape area leaving a 1/4” gap along the border. Note: Do not drive nails too deeply as this will cause dimpling.
  • Before laying the turf down, be sure to find either a straight edge or two perpendicular edges for alignment. Square the turf to fit the area to minimize cutting and fitting on all four sides. Once the turf is square, secure the square edges with temporary nails to hold it in place while securing the opposite edges.
  • When fitting the turf, over- cut the turf by one inch along the edges for a proper fit. The excess turf will be necessary for the tucking process. When seaming turf edges together, use a seaming tool. Cut the turf in an S-shape to avoid the turf possibly pushing against each other's angles, which can create discoloration illusion in the seamed area. Install nails every six inches along the edge and drive them down three-quarters of the way. When finished, separate the grass to avoid pulling the blades down with the nail. The nail will be hidden with the grass blade at the base of the mat. Don't drive the nails down too deeply as it will pull the turf down and create dimples. Be sure to secure seams with six-inch U-nails every six inches. Make sure the U-nail is driven to the same level of the mat and hidden with the grass blades.
  • Note: When seaming the turf over a turf pad, you will want to use our turf seam tape or our turf seam tape & adhesive pack which features turf seam tape and a gallon adhesive bucket.
  • Tucking the turf means you will be hiding the turf edges against any hardscape or border by using a metal bar call a wonder bar. This will give your installation a clean plush look.
  • Use a power brush or heavy bristled brush to pull against the grain of the grass to make it stand up. Apply your infill or sand and spread the granules evening throughout the entire turf installation. The infill will hold the blades upright and give the turf more weight.
  • Brush up your turf once again with a power brush or bristled brush to force your infill into the base of the turf. This will allow the turf to settle and create optimal stability for your synthetic grass. Follow up the process to also remove excess debris.
Glue Down Indoor Installation
  • First you will want to make sure that your surface is level, clean and dry. Our turf flooring can be installed on concrete, dusting, powdering concrete, gypcrete , pressure treated decking, wood, or backer board.
  • Next you will want to dry lay your turf to implement roll sequencing to minimize normal variations. Manufacturing details will be back stamped on one side of the backing; this will assist in determining fiber direction.
  • If adding a turf pad, you would install this over the base with either double-sided tape or glue.
  • Apply adhesive or double-sided tape and then lay the turf.
  • Apply a bead of seam sealer to all seams.
  • Roll the product with a 75 lb. Weighted roller across the width and length of the product surface.
  • Once completed, the installation much remain in dry conditions for 72 hrs. in order for the adhesive to cure properly.

It Starts with the Yarn

  • Oval Turf Fiber: Soft, pliable feel

The oval grass blade shape provides a soft pliable feel as well as a realistic appearance, which makes this synthetic turf ideal for children and pets.

Worry-free Drainage

  • Drains Better than Natural grass

Most artificial grass backing is perforated with holes that measure approximately ½ centimeter in diameter and can drain at a rate of more than 30 inches per hour per square yard. Believe it or not, this is actually better than a natural lawn! Whether it’s water or pet urine, the drainage capacity ensures your turf will continue to look great after installation. No need to feel like you can’t have a picnic, run around or let your dogs loose on it. Synthetic grass harnesses the technology to keep your landscape hassle free with great drainage capability.

Are your Newport Turf Rolls, UV stable and heat/frost resistant?
Jennifer
Our Newport Turf Rolls are UV Stable and heat/frost resistant.
How wide and long is this exactly?
hayden
Our Newport Turf Rolls come 7.5' or 15' wide and can be ordered in any whole foot increment needed.
How is cutting and shaping done? What tools are needed to do so? Does the cut edge fray? And do you need to treat edge to stop this and how so?
Roger
To cut our Newport Turf Rolls, all you would need is a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. When you come up to the area where you need to cut; measure where you need to make your cut and fold over the turf. You will then use the utility knife and cut the back of the turf. The edge will not fray like typical carpet. Since these fibers look like grass, you will still have the same look. To get a visual representation of how this is done, we do offer an installation video for our turf products.
Can you install over stone and can it be raked?
Anonymous
We recommend placing our Newport Turf Rolls over a smooth surface, whether that be hilly or flat. Depending on how jagged the stones are, you could potentially install the turf over the stones. You can rake the turf, but with a plastic rake, not a metal one.
How hot do Newport Turf Rolls get in the summer heat?
Carol Shall
So this question is a little loaded as the turf's heat depends on how the turf is installed, but from our testing of the turf in direct sunlight on an over 100-degree day in sunny Arizona, the turf without any infill was around 150 degrees or hotter. To help reduce how hot your turf gets, we recommend using one of the following infills: Durafill, Hydrochill, or Zeolite Max. Each of these helps keep the turf 20-30 degrees cooler, with our Hydrochill and Zeolite Max providing the best cooling effects.
Is newport turf roll fire/flame and heat resisitant to hot cigarette butts? I am looking at installing it in a smoking area outside a public house.
Theresa Porter
Our Newport Turf Rolls are non-flammable. They would great in a outdoor smoking area.
Can I put a fire pit on it?
Anonymous
You can install a fire pit over our Newport Turf Rolls. These rolls are fire resistant.
How can the turf be cut in order to make curved landscaping corners? Are special tools needed, or is it difficult for the average person?
Anonymous
No special tools are needed to cut the Newport Turf Rolls around landscaping corners. To cut you will lay the full roll over the area you are trying to install the roll in and then cut the excess while leaving about a foot or so around the perimeter. You will then a cut to allow you to fold the excess over and cut the turf to fit your space with a sharp utility knife. You would repeat this process until your turf is cut into place.
Will weeds grow through the turf?
Anonymous
Weeds can grow through our Newport Turf Rolls, so we recommend using our Weed Fabric under it.
How wide is a roll of turf?
Anonymous
Our Newport Turf Rolls are 12' wide.
Can softball cleats hurt the turf?
rick
Our Newport Turf Roll is not a high traffic rated, so we do not recommend using softball cleats on the turf. Any of our high traffic turf rolls like our Daytona or Austin Elite would be able to take softball cleat traffic with a proper install.
Can your artificial turf be used for a garage floor? How would you hold it down?
Larry
We don't recommend using our Newport Turf Rolls as a garage floor, but you could use it for that purpose. If you were to use this fake grass as garage flooring, depending on how you drive, you may see somewhere and tear where you drive in and out. To keep the blades looking more natural, we would suggest brushing them on a regular basis. Over time, it would be very difficult to get the blades to return to their natural state. To keep the turf roll in place, we would recommend using a pressure sensitive glue like our 5900 Series.
How steep of a slope can this product be installed on? I have a roadway ditch bank that is too steep to safely mow.
Anonymous
Our Newport Turf Rolls can be installed on any grade of slope. The turf is nailed in so it will stay in place no matter how steep the grade is.
Can your product be used over a deteriorating asphalt driveway (1200 sq ft area) for driving into a garage? The asphalt can be patched and made reasonably smooth. Want to determine if it can stand up to vehicle traffic? Thanks!
Ginger R Senter
We don't recommend a car driving over our Newport Turf Rolls. The turf we recommend for driving over are high traffic turfs which typically have a face weight of 60+.
How long is the product warranty?
joel Bridgewater
The warranty on our Newport Turf Rolls is 15 years. This warranty covers manufacturer defects.
Can you install over compacted pea gravel? Does it do well in snow and freezing weather?
We recommend installing our Newport Turf Rolls over crushed granite as this will help your turf to drain properly. We don't recommend using compacted pea gravel, but customers have used this with success. You would still want to follow the instructions that are provided on the Installation tab on this product page. Our turf is very resistant and has been installed all over the US and Canada. Our turf is freeze/thaw stable and can even handle the extreme heat of the US Southwest.
Can this be used over cement, for putting a golf ball?
Lawrence
You can install our Newport Turf Rolls over cement. These turf rolls can be loose laid, taped, or glued to the cement. Our Newport Turf Rolls are not the best for use as a putting surface. The fibers on this product would impede the rolling of the ball greatly. For putting, we would recommend a low pile turf. All of the products that we recommend for putting can be found on our Putting Green Turf page.
Can this be installed on a rubber-floor roof terrace? Will rainwater be able to drain underneath?
Kate
This can be installed on a roof terrace. You would want to use turf along with our Flo Through turf subfloor. Easy to install, this foam pad will not only help to move water off your roof, but will also add extra comfort underfoot.
Can this turf be applied over wood decking?
Our Newport Turf Rolls can be installed over wood decking. These fake grass rolls can be installed over any hard, flat surface.
Can you install Newport Turf on top of wood decking on a rooftop?
Amy Guterman
Our Newport Turf Rolls can be installed as flooring over a wood deck on a rooftop. We recommend using double-sided tape or glue to keep the turf in place.
Would this be able to be used for an indoor soccer area? And can it get wet? We would install a small 200 sq ft area in our basement but it does flood up to 1" at times.
sheila
Newport Turf Rolls can be used for an indoor soccer area, however we recommend using any of our Sports Turf for this purpose since they are built to withstand heavy traffic and they also come with a drainage system that will help drain water when there is a flood. Our most popular Sports Turf product is the Performance Turf Roll. Please use this link to browse through all of our Sport Turfs. https://www.rubberflooringinc.com/turf-flooring.html#!filter=201
We would like to install on a EPDM Rubber roof. What is the best way to install?
Jennifer
The most important issues of a rooftop are drainage and ensuring the original rooftop surface is not penetrated. Most installations over a TPO overlay have a drain membrane installed between the turf and the roof surface. This ensures that the water drains properly to roof surface drains. Depending upon the layout and roof makeup, a nailer board is typically fastened around the perimeter and the turf edges are secured to that. It is weighted down using infill just as a typical landscape install would be to hold down.
can it be custom sized to go down the isle for a wedding? Maybe 3' by 60'?
sue williams
Our Newport Turf Rolls come in fixed widths of 7.5' and 15' but you may choose the length of your choice. You can also easily cut these with sharp scissors as needed.
Can this turf be laid directly onto a silicone floor without a subfloor tiles or draining materials?
Tonia
If the turf is being used outdoors, we recommend using subfloor tiles or crushed granite underneath to allow for drainage.
Can the Newport Turf Rolls be installed on a deteriorating asphalt parking lot, if it will only be open to pedestrian traffic, no vehicles?
Yes, these turf rolls can be installed on the asphalt parking lot.
Can turf be installed over a TPO roof deck?
Kathy
Yes, the Newport Turf Rolls can be installed over a TPO roof deck. It is important to make sure to allow for proper drainage. We would recommend the Airdrain Turf Drainage Tiles.
Does this product contain flame resistance?
John

Newport Turf Rolls can be installed on concrete?
Maria Perilla
Yes, our Newport Turf Rolls can be installed on concrete.

How is your product do in the snow? I'm in Idaho
Angie
Our turf is very resistant and has been installed all over the US and Canada (including Idaho). Our turf is freeze/thaw stable and can even handle the extreme heat of the US Southwest.
Is this roll appropriate for drainage and for an outdoor home gym? If not, which roll is best for an outdoor home gym (has padding AND drains)?
Joyce
The Newport Turf Rolls have drainage and can be used as a light home gym floor (depending on the workouts). For something more heavy-duty, we recommend the Performance Turf Rolls.
