If we are putting this over carpet, do we need a subflooring? I am just concerned about the flooring being too squishy?

The dance subfloor will function best over a flat, solid surface. High pile, home carpet can cause the tiles to not lay flat and the interlocks to not sit flush. You can put plywood down between the carpet and dance subfloor for a solid surface.
