But the first question most customers have is, “What is the best floor for my application?” The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer Don’t worry, we’re going to break it down and help you sort through the details to find your perfect gym floor!
Types of Gym Flooring
Gym flooring can come in many different forms. Whether it's turf, rubber, or foam, your gym will be ready to support you through all your workouts. But first, let’s figure out which gym floor is best for you!
Rubber rolls are great for easily covering large areas. Available in several thicknesses, all of our rubber rolls are 4’ wide. For lateral movement exercises such as P90X or Insanity, rubber rolls are preferred. Lateral movements can move interlocking tiles, which can create a trip hazard while working out. And no one wants that.
Pros:
- Durable & long-lasting
- Great impact & sound absorption
- Seamless look in large areas
Cons:
- Heavy and bulky to install
- May require adhesive
- Harder to move or replace
Our Top Recommendations
Rubber tiles are by far one of the most popular gym flooring options. You can choose between interlocking tiles, which look like puzzle pieces, or straight-cut tiles, which look like squares in several thicknesses.
Interlocking tiles are very easy to install. Essentially, your floor becomes a giant puzzle, and it’s your job to put the pieces together. Interlocking tiles are great over flat subfloors such as concrete or plywood, whereas 1” thick tiles are great over plush carpet or uneven surfaces. Whatever you choose, your floor will look virtually seamless and very professional.
Pros:
- Easy to install & replace
- Interlocking options available
- Durable and non-slip
Cons:
- Visible seams
- May shift slightly if not secured
- Usually more expensive per square foot than rolls
Rubber gym mats are a flexible, durable, and budget-friendly solution for protecting your floors in high-impact areas. Whether you're outfitting a full weight room or creating designated lifting zones, rubber mats offer excellent performance with minimal installation hassle.
Pros:
- Very dense & durable
- Great for high-impact protection
- No installation required
Cons:
- Edges may shift or curl if not secured
- Heavy and bulky to move (especially stall mats)
- Visible seams

Our soft flooring consists of foam tiles, great for many applications. These lightweight tiles are ideal for everything from home gyms to martial arts studios and simply fit together for an easy, no-hassle installation. All you have to do is decide what thickness level works for you and your gym floor.
Pros:
- Lightweight & soft underfoot
- Great for mat workouts
- Inexpensive & easy to install
Cons:
- Not suitable for heavy weights (dents easily)
- Wears out faster than rubber
- Less grip & can be slippery

Gym turf or sports turf has been one of the biggest driving forces in creating spaces where you can vary up your workout regimen. From pulling or pushing sleds to conditioning drills, you can get a full-body workout on a surface that is durable and easy to maintain. With real grass, there are a lot of hurdles.
Pros:
- Low-friction surface for sled work
- Durable & long-lasting
- Unique look and feel
- Works well with rubber padding underneath
Cons:
- More expensive to install
- May need glue or double-sided tape
- Requires regular brushing/cleaning
