I do recommend the Dura Lock Rubber Tiles from Rubber Flooring Inc. (RFI). Even though I did not order a sample, between their website and those of their competitors, I was able to obtain a good perspective on the product. Having evaluated a half-dozen online companies, RFI had the most reasonable price and availability for my budget. Please read on for further details on my experience with order/delivery, product usage, assembly, and best practice suggestions. ORDER & DELIVERY Ordered forty-five 3/4″ Dura Lock Tile tiles on Tue, 11/24 and received via LTL freight on Tue, 12/15. Your personal experience may vary but my delivery guy was kind enough to offload the pallet of tiles directly into my garage. Individual tiles are easy to transport but do weigh approximately 20 pounds each. FOR CONTEXT The 3/4″ tiles were ordered to support a basement home gym project in a 12' x 16' space. The rubber tiles would be sitting on top of 1/4″ vinyl plank flooring. The flooring had to support the lifting and dropping of free weights onto the floor as well as an 800+ pound weight rack. I ordered knowing that I would have to make cuts to some of my tiles to accommodate the layout of my room. THE BUILD I could not complete my flooring until 14-days after receiving delivery of the tiles (please see the ″RUBBER SMELL″ section below for more details). After organizing the tiles in rows and stacks, it took me several hours to completely lay down all the tiles and another day for them to completely ″settle down″. The interlocking tiles all fit together nicely without any significant gaps, grooves, or humps that would pose a tripping hazard. RUBBER SMELL (i.e. off-gassing) The rubber tiles did have a very strong and heavy rubber smell. Due to inclement weather and lack of outdoor space, I had to store my rubber tiles in the basement room for my home gym. After separating all the tiles to expose as much surface material on all tiles, I had to run two fans and two air purifiers 24-hours a day for 2-weeks to help dissipate the smell. After 14-days, there is still a rubber smell but quite faint and bearable for my family and I. BEST PRACTICES This is pretty obvious but do measure the space for the tiles to ensure you order the correct number and type of tiles. If you experience strong and heavy off-gassing, I do recommend separating all the tiles and lay them out in an open area that has a strong circulation of fresh air and direct access to the sun. Do keep a box cutter (with multiple sharp blades) available and measure carefully before cutting. If making cuts to your tiles, having a T-ruler to make your measurements and guide your cuts would be helpful. A rubber mallet or just a hammer to make sure the interlocking pieces come together and lay flat was a plus for me. Keep a portable vacuum around because the tiles will produce some small crumbs during the installation process. For cleaning, I've been using S!MPL3 GR33N from my local hardware store without any issues and damage to the tiles. If your order size requires delivery of the product on a pallet, please clear enough space on your property to receive the order and/or make it easy to transport the tiles to their final destination. I hope this review helps anyone looking at purchasing and installing the Dura Lock Rubber tiles.

Hey team! I’m super excited about my new 3/4 inch Dura Lock rubber tile flooring for my home gym. I measured, ordered and installed the floors single handedly. No, I am not a carpenter or handyman. Yes, I was Initially intimidated about the challenge of installing the floors myself. Nevertheless, with just an adjustable T-Square, a utility knife and a 12 inch piece of 2x4 (to help drive the pieces into place), I had everything thing I needed and completed my 12 x30 foot weight room in about 4 hours. The 3/4 inch Dura Lock rubber tile flooring was the added touch that give my gym that premium commercial feel. I’m super satisfied as I know the fitness of this floor will long out last my own personal fitness! Lorenzo B Farmville, VA

1/2‘ Dura-Lock Good but not perfect

The Good: very durable, and they actually are a full 1/2” thick. I have an 800 lb multi-functional trainer on them and a dumbbell rack with 550 lbs of dumbbells plus the weight of a heavy duty rack. No indentation or sag whatsoever. Also, the center tiles fit together seamlessly. The corner tiles are also just right. The smell was not bad at all (I installed myself in the basement). The tiles sat with the shipping company for a couple of weeks (not Rubber Flooring’s fault - the shipping company was way backed up due to a big storm) so maybe that helped them air out. I did use a fan and I kept the basement windows open during the day for a few days — they do need to off-gas some. But they didn’t have a toxic smell and the smell they did have dissipated noticeably every day. The Not-So-Good: The edge tiles have gaps where the puzzle pieces fit together. For perspective, the gym area is just under 18 feet by 16 feet. The whole center area looks perfect - no gaps anywhere. But every single one of the edge pieces has a gap where they connect to each other. None of them touch a wall, so the size of the connecting puzzle pieces relative to the size of the center pieces must be the issue. I’ve sent pictures showing how perfectly the center pieces fit together but how the edge one’s don’t. The gap between the edge pieces is in every single edge piece around the entire 18 foot by 16 foot area. I suspect the corners don’t have this problem, though, because the gap is extremely slight where they connect to the corners (making me think the issue is only with the edge piece, not the corner piece)..

I did buy a single tile ahead of time so that I would know what to expect. My Cat Room floor came out beyond my expectations. A little tricky finding a technique for engaging the interlock tabs on the tile. But, after that the floor went down perfectly. It's a small room roughly 10-feet by 13-feet. A total of 35 tiles. I did some trimming along two walls which was super easy with a sharp utility knife. We have 6 cats and for anyone with a multiple-cast household this solution is a must! Can't say enough good things about these tiles!

The 3x3 squares worked out great underneath our home gym equipment. So long as you follow the install instructions (placing tiles the correct side up) then joining the pieces together is fairly straightforward. This was a good value solution for our needs.

The Dura Lock Rubber Tiles were exactly what I needed to complete my garage gym setup. I needed something that was strong enough to put up with weights potentially falling and also to withstand vehicle weight. These tiles were a breeze to install and any sections that I needed to trim or cut were simple with a sharp razor blade. I'm very happy with how the garage turned out and have recommended these to friends.

The product, Dura Lock Rubber Tiles with 10% gray and ¾″ thick, was beautiful and perfect for our gym in our warehouse as it was easy to install (I did it myself). I can confirm that it's highly durable because I dropped heavy dumbbells on it, and it protected the flooring. So if you're hesitant about buying it, don't because you'll love it! Thank you guys for making an incredible product!

The flooring is great and really compliments our rooms and colors. We laid this down in the rec room with our pool table, workout room, shop, and storage room. You can cut by hand with an razor blade or with a jigsaw with soft material blades. The latter is somewhat harder but a lot faster. The 1/2” is great for everything and really gives you warmth and comfort when walking on it. I’m going to use the extra pieces and scraps for my outdoor ninja warrior course.

  Edge pieces don’t fit

For as expensive as the items are, it would be great if all pieces fit together. Our center pieces work fine, but when you get to the end the edge pieces don’t match. There seems to be uniformity issues with the cutting of their tiles (they are about 1/4 inch off, which is just enough to make them not connect). I wouldn’t recommend these.

I am super happy with this product. I am using it as a floating floor (not fully wall-to-wall) over hardwood in the room I'm now using as a gym and it's been great. It took a little longer to receive than quoted, but the product itself is excellent. It stays put, and while the seams are visible, I can't feel them even when lifting barefoot. I was worried about the odor because I'm very sensitive to smells and using it in a small, not-well-ventilated space, but it hasn't been an issue at all, thankfully. I laid it down by myself very quickly mostly by hand and used a regular hammer with a towel buffer for a couple of tighter spots since I don't have a rubber mallet. Bottom line: It's a great, sturdy floor and I definitely recommend it.

I purchased 160 of the 1/2” rubber tiles to convert a 550 square foot room upstairs into a workout/gym area. As I do with all significant purchases, I conducted extensive research on available products and read literally hundreds of reviews. After I short-listed 2 products, I selected Rubber Flooring based on price and quality. I would make the same choice today.

It’s a great flooring for a basement. I have a workout bench and ping pong table in the area. I like that it’s durable. My son has even played soccer with cleats on it and there were no marks. It does a nice job of blocking the cold radiating from the concrete floor.

  Durable Surface

Installed in Kithen, Breakfast room test prior to installation.
Ayers Morison, Jr., AIA, LEED AP from Michigan wrote...
A very durable surface that we are testing in a kitchen/breakfast room area. This surface is easy to clean with a small amount of soap (Murphy's soap) and water. The 1/4″ thick sample tiles were still very hard without much cushion and will require at least a 1/2″ soft underlayment pad to allow some ″give″ to the product to eliminate foot fatigue and breakage. The off-gassing from just 2, 2' x 2' tiles was significant; but, this did dissipate after a few days. This a fine surface for walking on with the recommended backing; however, no furniture or chairs will slide at all on the rubber surface, even after testing with nylon slides. Lifting and placing furniture would not be a viable solution, especially for older people. Casters may be the only option.

We purchased this flooring to go under our cardio area in our gym. Tile are nice quality and seem to be perfect for what we needed however we haven't been able to put them to the test just yet. I only gave four stars for the fact that even though they are like a puzzle piece and they are to go together as such we found they all didn't fit together as expected and it was like trying to make a piece fit that really didn't go and it would leave a small gap. Other than that they seem to be fine. I would still go this route but hopefully it might be something that could be fixed.
