What is the difference between the 8mm Strong Rubber Tile and the 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tile?
Rob
The main difference between the 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles and the 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles is the size. The Sport-Lock Tiles are 3' x 3' whereas the 8mm Strong Rubber Tiles are 23" x 23". The only difference is that the Sport-Lock Tiles come with removable edges that can be used to turn any tile into a corner, border, or center tile whereas the 8mm Strong Tiles are made into the respective tile types.
How will these hold up to dog claw marks? Looking to put this in the dog's playroom in the basement. Thanks.
Jason
There is potential for pet claws to scratch the surface of our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles or any of our rubber flooring. This will not destroy the integrity of the flooring but will just cause some unsightly scratch marks overtime. You will typically only see scratch marks from pets when they are clawing at the flooring, not when they are walking or running across the floor.
Does the edge piece increase the tile measurement? Or is it 3 feet by 3 feet with the edge pieces?
Ronald Sung
The edging does increase the size of the tiles by about an inch when left on. When removed, the tiles are 3' x 3'. Since the tiles will have to be installed interlocked, you do lose some size, so when they are installed, the tiles are 3' x 3'.
Do these tiles come with edge pieces? I see them in the picture, but I can't seem to find any mentioning of them anywhere. Thanks.
Anonymous
Each 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tile comes with removable edging so that you can make any tile into a corner, border, or center tile.
What does the "5% overage" mean?
Essentially we suggest you order more material than is needed to complete the job so that you have extra material for damage and miscuts.
How much of a rubber odor do these tiles have, and how long does it last?
David DeLorenzo
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles don't give off a lot of odor. They will have a rubber smell when you first receive them, and if you are sensitive to it, there are ways to help dissipate it. We recommend mopping the floor with a mild soap and water solution and then letting the flooring air dry. You will want to make sure that the space where the flooring is being installed has ample ventilation. You may have to repeat this process a few times to get the rubber smell to dissipate truly.
Can the tiles be laid over a low pile carpet?
afriedel
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles can be installed over low pile commercial carpet with ease. If installing over residential carpet with a thick pad, installation can get a little tricky as the tiles have the potential to separate when the pad under the carpet it depressed.
Are these water jet cut or die cut?
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles are water jet cut.
Can these be placed over a garage floor? Just lay them on top?
John Moscati
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles can be used as flooring in a garage, but we don't recommend driving over these tiles. There are a few things that can affect the performance of rubber tiles in a garage setting. If you were to drive over the tiles and turn your wheel, you could cause the tiles to separate. Also, if your car were to leak oil at all, the tiles could start to break down over time. If you are using the garage as a space other than for parking a car, then our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles would be a good flooring solution.
Should these tiles be sealed with the rubber flooring sealer?
Jackson Fleming
You don't have to seal our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles, but you can if you so choose. Typically people will seal their flooring when they are using it in areas where liquids will fall on the floor on a consistent basis like doggy daycares, kitchens, spin rooms, and the like. This ensures that any liquids that do fall on the floor do start to get into the small pores that can be found in the floor.
Are these tiles suitable for outdoor use? I have a concrete patio, not covered, where I want to put a rowing machine. Thanks.
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles can be installed outdoors. These rubber tiles are very resistant to the elements and are very slip-resistant and more so when wet. These interlocking rubber tiles are also mold and mildew resistant and are easy to clean. The only thing you will notice is that the tiles will fade in direct sunlight over time.
Can they be used outside on a deck?
Faina Levitsky

These interlocking tiles are very slip-resistant and even more so when wet. They are also mold and mildew resistant. Should any type of material be put on the floor before the tiles are laid down?
Gene
Nothing needs to be placed under our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles or any of rubber flooring. As long as your subfloor is hard and flat, you can install our rubber flooring over it.
Can the tiles be cut to fit a curved edge?
Michael Levin
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles can be easily cut to fit any space. All you need to cut these rubber tiles are a sharp utility knife and straight edge.
Would these work underneath a Peloton Bike on top of a concrete floor?
Amanda
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles will work perfectly under a Peloton Bike.
Would these tiles work under dance floor tiles? They would be stacked over a hard floor or carpet.
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles can be used as a subfloor under our dance floor tiles. As long as the subfloor under the rubber tiles is hard and flat, there would be no issues.
For a home gym where weights are going to be dropped, what is the difference between 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber & 1/2" Rubber Gym Tiles?
Jordan
The difference between our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles and our 1/2" Rubber Gym Tiles is that our Rubber Gym Tiles are vulcanized, meaning they are non-porous and denser. So when dropping weight on either tile, our Rubber Gym Tiles will be better suited to absorb the shock of the dropping weight better protecting your subfloor.
Are there any harmful chemicals? Safe for kids?
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles do not contain any harmful chemicals and are very safe for kids. If you would like a copy of the MSDS for this product, please reach out to one of our Flooring Heroes via email, chat, or phone.
Will the 8mm Sport-Lock tile work in a woodworking shop, with heavy machines resting on it.
Addison Cheeseman
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles have been used as flooring in a woodworking shop with heavy machines. The machines will not damage the tiles in any way. The only thing you will notice is that the flooring may indent a bit under the feet of the equipment. Cleaning the tiles is very easy. Just use a blower to remove any of the wood bits that are left behind. To prevent any wood from getting into the small pores in the floor, we recommend sealing the floor.
Some reviews say the 8mm tiles come apart easily when rolling heavy gym equipment on them. Will this happen when moving a weight bench around on the floor?
Erin Murnan
As long as our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles or any rubber tile is installed over a hard flat surface, the tiles will not come apart when moving heavy equipment over the floor. When installed over a plush, high pile carpet with a thick pad, the tiles do tend to come apart. If you are installed over plush carpet, we recommend placing a 1/4" plywood board under the tiles.
Do these rubber tiles mess up wood floors? Does the rubber react with anything on wood floors?
Jennifer
Our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles will not affect wood floors in any way. If you are concerned, we recommend placing a plastic sheet under the tiles to protect your wood flooring.
Is a vapor barrier needed, or can they be directly installed on concrete in a basement?
Dustin
You don't need to install our 8mm Sport-Lock Rubber Tiles over a vapor barrier. You can install our rubber flooring directly over the concrete.
