How do you install this over a solid wood floor? Do I need to place anything under the rubber to protect my hardwood floor?

Our Eco-Flec Rolls can be installed over a wood floor without damaging the floor. If you are concerned with the rubber leaving marks on your hardwood flooring, we recommend placing a plastic sheet under the rubber rolls to protect your wood flooring.
