4 Options for Faux Wood Flooring
4 Options for Faux Wood Flooring
For all the look and luxury of hardwood floors without the cost and maintenance, we have our favorite 4 options for faux wood flooring including laminate, tile, vinyl and foam.
If you’re anything like me, you think night and day about putting gorgeous hardwood floors in your house. I mean, they’re classy, beautiful, and they will always be in style. I have to admit, when I first started really looking into redoing my floors, I had total sticker shock. For the price of doing hardwood, I could practically buy a new car! Not to mention if you have pets or kiddos, it’s not always the best option.
There was definitely a time when none of the “faux wood” options measured up; when you could tell immediately if the floor was legit or like those fake designer bags they try to sell you on in NYC. But the times have changed. If you want the look of wood floors in your home, you now have more options than ever! At every price point and for every lifestyle, there is a floor for you.
1. Laminate. Laminate is like news articles from Huffington Post. Everyone’s heard of it, almost everyone likes it, and it often passes for the real deal. There are tons of gorgeous and affordable laminate options that come in textured true-to-wood looks that can fool almost anyone. Easy to clean and maintain so that you can keep your house and floors looking great without slaving away all day. Scrubbing a floor? No thank you. Also, laminate is a fairly easy DIY project so you can save yourself some extra $$ on both the product and install.
2. Wood-look Tile. The new kid on the block that is quickly increasing in popularity. Sturdy, durable tile that looks just like the wood look you’re craving with endless options and price points. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, yes? I had been 100% sure I never wanted tile flooring again until I came across these beauties, and every day I hear people telling me they are redoing their homes with wood-look tile floors. Tile is easy to maintain and can handle all the elements so you can even achieve your wood look in bathrooms and kitchens without worrying about water damage. If you haven’t looked into this hot new flooring, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
3. Luxury Vinyl. Whaaaat?? Vinyl? I know, this isn’t the 80’s, but hear me out. They are doing some pretty sweet things with vinyl that make it look really close to the real deal hardwood. It’s a solution that’s not only easy on the wallet, but easy on the eyes as well. Not to mention vinyl is very durable, built to last, easy to maintain and great for every area of the house–even the bathroom. Many options even include long time warrantees, so if you only want to do your floor once, it’s a great option. Don’t worry, no one will ever even guess it’s vinyl!
4. Soft Wood Foam Tiles.Okay, so these aren’t trying to be hardwood. They are foam, but they offer a great wood look with lots of hidden benefits. They are great for families with kids and pets. The are the easiest to maintain, super affordable, and they are great for insulation! The best part? If one section of your floor gets damaged, you just pop a new tile in. If you have little ones running around, you won’t have to worry about them falling because you’ll have a great soft surface that keeps your home looking and feeling great.
